[PoTA] Heroes Come in All Sizes by NorthPaws

After the discovery of the ancient Akotas, the TCA has decided to formalize their presence in the Tartok Mountains. With the permission and aid of Thunderfeather's clan, they have established an Outpost in the valley on the site of the expedition camp. Here can be found a cluster of portakabins, tokota kennels, yurts, and tents. A small group of TCA scientists, researchers, and native tribespeople spend shifts of time living onsite, dedicating themselves to the study of these magnificent beasts...

What is the Outpost?

Every so often, the TCA will send out a call for volunteers to help them with various Akota-related problems, which require a bit of extra manpower and expertise. These problems usually include the tracking and taming of wild Akotas, assistance with the Akota breeding program, and the adoption of orphaned or TCA-bred Akota pups.

Feral Akotas and orphaned pups logged at the Outpost will be distributed to the community through the process of a raffle system, in order to stabilize the spread of genes.

From time to time, the Outpost will also offer select breeding pairs comprised of the TCA's own Akotas and Dires to help naturally further the species and to study the offspring of both breeds.

Occasionally, a Wild Akota may slip past the Outpost. These Akotas will be tagged for regular taming and will appear on the Wild Packs journal. Akotas available for "regular" (non-raffle) style taming will have the Wild Tokota import background. You can find out how to acquire a Wild Akota by reading up on Taming a Wild Tokota.

If you're looking to get your own Akota, head on over to the cycling Outpost journal to see what we have available!

OUTPOST RULES

  • You must be a member of Tokotas to participate.
  • Accounts less than a month old are not eligible to enter.
  • If you win an akota (via geno/slot raffle or taming) in one round, you may not enter the next round.
  • Before you can participate in anything, such as activities, shows, breeding, etc. with your Akota, you must complete the Bonding process.
  • If you win a geno or uploaded Akota via raffle, you cannot sell them without first adding value to them, e.g. a design, additional artwork, etc. However, you may gift or trade them to another member.
  • You may not enter raffles or attempt to tame with multiple accounts. This is dishonest, and if you're caught you will be disqualified and further action may be taken.
  • Outpost entries cannot be reused for activities, rites, etc. They should be unique entries created/used for the sole purpose of entering Outpost raffles.
  • Lineages for akota genos won in Outpost raffles will be assigned by uploaders.
  • You cannot add/remove genes to/from an akota geno won from the Outpost.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Art

  • At least 75% of the Akota must be depicted in order to be valid.
  • At least 75% of the handler must be depicted in order to be valid.
  • Images should be at least 300 x 300 pixels in size.
  • Entries should be relevant to the prompt provided.
  • Entries must be submitted to your Gallery or Scraps. Sta.sh or offsite entries are not acceptable.
  • A semi-complex background is required. You may not have large, blank spaces where there is no color, shading, or difference in tone. This generally means you must have 3-4 elements for your background.
  • Black and white images, as well as color-palette-themed images are permitted; however, they must be sufficiently detailed, and the tokota's individual markings must be discernible without difficulty. Comic-style B&W images are also allowed if they use enough variation in values to illustrate each marking.

Literature

  • Entries should be at least 1000 words.
  • Entries should be relevant to the prompt provided.
  • Entries must be submitted to your Gallery or Scraps. Sta.sh or offsite entries are not acceptable.
  • Your handler and the Akota should be mentioned thoroughly throughout the story.

FAQ

Can anyone participate, or is this only for those who participated in the Summer Event?

The Outpost is for everyone! You are welcome to participate, even if you didn't join in on the Summer Event.

I own an Akota! Now what?

Once you have an uploaded Akota, you'll want to head over to the Bonding journal and read up on how to get closer to your beast!

Can handlers be feral?

So long as they are a size compatible with Tokotas. You couldn't have a snail or a squirrel for instance (unless the squirrel was abnormally large)

why can't akotas have traits or rare manes?
Lachtaube's avatar
Lore-wise, rare manes and physical traits are aspects of modern-day tokotas that prehistoric tokotas (Akotas) just did not acquire as they did not exhibit selective breeding.

I want to enter, but I'm still waiting for my first tokota to be uploaded.  Can I borrow a tokota from a friend to be the match maker?
Or, maybe one of the group import tokotas?

Sorry, but no. :c You have to use your own, uploaded tokota.
Allicorn's avatar
Oh that's too bad.  Any chance they will be uploaded today then?!

The upload admins upload when they have time. Please be patient. c:
If you aren't able to enter this round, there will always be the next round! <3

Can we use the entries as adventure rolls if we include other tokotas to the entries as well (aside from the breeding pair and maybe the one that is trying to play Cupid on them)?
TotemSpirit's avatar
I'm afraid not. ;v; These entries are for the Outpost only.

Well almost knew that lol but had a wish there could be at least some consolation even if one wouldn't win. Thanks for the answer!

I'm a wee bit confused - we win a slot to one of the Akotas, or we win a pup from the breeding pairings listed...?
Koevr's avatar
KoevrHobbyist Writer
You win a slot to the akota AND the dire they're paired with, and you breed them together.

Ah, very cool! Thank you for clarifying. :)

Yay, congrats to the winners! I feel like there should be an announcement/update to tell the new owners that Akotas can't have physical traits though, just in case someone is saving up for a SPW..
