Let me see... a short biography...
I'm an amateur astronomer with delusions of traveling the depths of space to capture more images than my computer can handle, I dabble in drawing wolves, Balto fan art, Ozy & Milly fan art, and whatever I can imagine. I build scale model starships both real and imagined. I teach physics, engineering, and astronomy at a junior college. I read far more literature not pertaining to my degree than I probably should. I like a little bit of everything in the realm of music, and if it alludes to science I like it even better.

A Cosmic Perspective

Back again!Well, my perspective certainly has changed! I now reside on the opposite side of a faculty desk. The responsibility now falls upon my shoulders to teach the next generation(s) of astronomers, physicists, engineers, and scientists.Feels good to be done with school (for the most part; still have to finish my thesis, but that's just mostly writing), and to have a permanent job. Not yet sure how this will affect my time for artistic pursuits (then again, I don't think I've ever strayed too far from art of one form or another). I no longer have unlimited access to the telescopes I once did, so while I save up money to purchase my...

Space Rocks!

Not only does space really rock, it also has rocks... and I discovered one. I was working on imaging one of the Messier Objects that I was not pleased with the first time I imaged it, and lo and behold there was an asteroid crossing through the field of view. The object is a 19th magnitude minor planet orbiting along the ecliptic in the night sky. I took the image data and calculated some orbital parameters for the minor planet and sent the data off to the professionals to see what they could make of it.Turns out it was an asteroid that had not been seen since 2006, and even then no one had good enough data to be able to plot its orbit....

So, been a while since I've been on dA..
That's ok, I've been busy with school - gradschool.
This has given me access to a rather large telescope though, and I've just gotten the thing to working right. So, hopefully, I'll have some new images to upload periodically.I need to get back into digital art as well...And I miss drawing too...Well, here's to starting again. Nice thing about dA, you can always pick back up where you left off... mostly. :P
