Today I put
"The Coffee Shop Goddess" out on the market by way of Lulu.com. it turned out a shade pricier than I might like, but it feels incredibly good to finally have that piece out and on the market!!
I first started TSCG in 2001 as a short story for a firend of mine to generate a few laughs. The two of us, after a little too much wine on a camping trip got to talking about how Pagans never create media for other Pagans... they create media to tell the world about themselves, and never try and share their stories and experiences with one another.
At the time I was reading the posthumous collection of Douglas Adams' work, "The Salmon of Doubt", anhis thoughts on the power of humour, and the ideas very much melded together. I decided to try and write funny stories for Pagans. The story, however got too big to be anything but a novel.
Well, life itself was hell for me in 2002 and 2003, and I was still trapped in an old set of ideas about writing, of which one of the core narratives was that you write a bunch of short stories and then sell those to get noticed. THEN you get a book contract. Once it became clear that TCSG was going to keep growing I put it aside for nearly two years and wrote a bunch of shorts.
By the time I got back to it in 2003, my philosophy had changed a little, but the peice was still my darling. I finished in 2004, showed it to some people... go a little iffy about it, and spent a year revising, re-writing, and adding another ending. Since 2005, I have sent it to four publishers, from SF / Fantasy giant DAW to the local small-fry company Inscribed, and never got so much as a peep of feedback.
It is only in the last year and a bit that I decided I was tired of the whole "waiting" thing, and the markets changed so that I would not damn myself and my career by self-publishing a work of Fantasy. So at last here it is! Now I have to learn how to sell it...
