Oh, lift the pole and close the seams,
hold fast the rope and pull the beams,
though storm may rage and night will fall,
still many hands will raise this wall.
Oh, canvas large and lantern bright,
keep us, travelers, through the night,
wheel through mud on roads in rain,
still we will build this tent again.
Oh, hammer loud and timber strong,
no one builds in dark alone,
when the old tent does not hold,
we make a new one out of gold.
Oh, drive down the nail and turn the key,
to make the ring for you and me;
Wood may splinter; hands may ache,
still this circus’ will won’t break.
