Description
The founder of the foreign Seventh Dynasty, Queen Heqet - later styled Pharaoh Heqet - was an astute military commander and leader in a time when the local culture tended to treat women as second class citizens. Sweeping up into Egypt from the South, along the Nile, she and her people were successful in putting an end to the weak Sixth Dynasty.
Choosing to align herself with the goddess Bast, she became increasingly Egyptian culturally, though she never fully adopted their style of dress, instead opting for something more "inspired" by their culture.
While other pyramids were built after hers, hers was the last of what are termed the "Great Pyramids", added to the three at Giza to be an eternal monument to her own rule, and placing her amongst the greatest Pharaohs.
