It had been some time since she had seen her old friend, glances of him sure after the Blutwald battle but Gabitrix hadn't had the time to really talk to him. If it wasn't healing those wounded after the battle, or her friend dealing with after battle politics, he was off getting himself a mate and thus they clearly had little time to chat. With everything settling however, Gabi' decided that she would have to break this trend. She had felt a little under the weather the past few days, spending a lot of time resting within her den. But cabin fever and an urge to see Alcatraz had forced the female to gather her wits and set out in the early morning in search of the dark pelted male.
Despite her feeling a little off, a bounce was in her step for her own reasons as much as the new news of Alcatraz and Athena's union. A small smile played across her muzzle as Gabitrix made her way towards where she expected to find the male, ears perked forwards curiously. "Alcatraz?"
she calls into the area, her tail twitching side to side as green eyes scan the foliage for that familiar mug of his.
Alcatraz was gnawing on a large prey bone when he heard a familiar voice call his name. He lifted his head. It was Gabitrix. He got to his paws with his tail wagging slowly and trotted toward the sound, pushing through the undergrowth to greet her. ”Good morning, Gabitrix. How are you doing?”
His pale yellow eyes scanned her pelt as he asked and then met her lovely green eyes warmly.
The sight of him as he breaks through the brush gets a soft sigh of relief. Finally! Gabitrix offers a beaming smile, ears rotating forwards alertly. "Better now!"
she murmurs cheerfully. She meets him head on, bumping her slender head into his neck and shoulder fondly, "Goodness is it good to see you in one piece.."
Gabi' utters almost anxiously. She had known Alcatraz had escaped the battle alive, but she was unaware of the extent of his wounds if he had any.
The pale female takes a step back, a slightly more mischievous glint sparkling in her green eyes, "Is it still ok for me to show you such affection?"
she asks coyly, "I do not wish to invoke the wrath of your new beloved.."
Gabitrix can't help the happy chuckle that follows shortly after. The fact that her best friend since pup-hood had found his true love, well, Gabi' was simply ecstatic. She wouldn't say it out loud, but she was more excited for the puppies in the future. Auntie Gabi. Had a nice ring to it!
Alcatraz nuzzled into her soft white fur with a happy smile as she greeted him. ”Yes, I’m fine. I am happy that you are as well.”
Alcatraz said, his pale yellow eyes scanning her fur for injury. Alcatraz himself was recovering well from a bite on his leg.
Alcatraz laughed out loud at that, ”Of course, Gabi! You’re my best friend!”
He narrowed his eyes playfully, ”Besides, you think your future mate will be able to keep me away? He can keep dreaming.”
He pointed out with a playful swat of his paw.
She scoffs softly, "Oh please.. I do not see that being an issue anytime soon,"
though despite her words, Gabi's ears pinken softly. She had never really sought out a mate, never really had time to fall for someone. She was always busy running and surviving, always busy being afraid of every shadow around her. Since she had come to Aryn though, that had changed and Gabitrix had suddenly realized there was more to life then just simply trying to stay alive.
Gabi' leans against him softly, rolling her stiff healing shoulder idly as she does so. "What have you been doing to pass the time since all the excitement has died down?"
she questions curiously, "I'm sure there is not a dull moment for one with your position, but I do hope you are getting at least a little relax and rest for yourself,"
Gabi' murmurs softly. Her words have a slight chiding tone, that motherly tone she's been known to use since she was a pup.
Alcatraz snorted, ”Pfft! A beautiful female like you! I’m sure many wolves have their eyes on you.”
the Alpha insisted. He sounded casual now, but he realized at that moment due to the tinge of protectiveness that sparked in his heart that he was not as open to it as he let on. Gabitrix was closer than any sister to him… what wolf in Aryn was worthy of her? Lawson perhaps…
Alcatraz smiled as she leaned against him and he licked her ear warmly, his eyes flicking to the healing wound on her shoulder and he frowned a bit… but at least she was healing, and she would be okay. That was the most important. Still, he wished he could have protected her.
He shrugged at her question, ”I hadn’t been able to do much with my leg,”
he admitted, ”But there are always borders to patrol to ensure no bitter Blutwald wolves return.”
He pointed out. ”What about you? Why don’t we go somewhere today?”
Her scar and ears pinkin at the idea of a male having eyes for her. She dips her muzzle bashfully and simply shakes her head. She didn't see anyway someone could! She was an outgoing female sure.. sometimes.. but for the most part she stayed rather reserved when it came to talking to boys
. Green eye flit up to the large male at her side and she nudges her shoulder against his, "Ah, you know I have only eyes for my main man,"
she winks. Alcatraz was the only family she had left, and her best friend was much more then that, though they never and would never cross that 'line'. The fact he had found love with Athena overjoyed the pale she wolf more then she could ever express.
When he mentions getting away for the day, of going somewhere, Gabitrix ears perk forwards and her brows raise, "Like we used to? That would be splendid.. I do need some beauty in my life today.. something to make me feel better! I think the stress is getting to me,"
she admits finally, an ear twitching sideways. The bounce to her step returns however with the prospect of going somewhere, of taking a small adventure, and she bounds forwards a few steps. "Well come on old man! Lets go!"
Alcatraz smiled at her affectionately. Her love for him was reciprocated, and he thought the world of the silver and white she-wolf. He loved his mate Athena of course, but Gabitrix was his family too, and he would kill and die for her too. He nudged her back roughly, in a playful way like they often did.
He nodded, ”Yeah… I think we all need a break after what we have been through.”
Alcatraz agreed. He was sad to hear that she was stressed, but it was not surprising with the aftermath of the war still sending Aryn reeling. The dark brown wolf bounded after her, directing them the way northwest toward the mountains. He glanced at her. ”Is there anything on your mind?”
Alcatraz asked, starting casual conversation as they made their way onward.
She keeps pace with the big male beside her, green eyes alight with curiosity as to where exactly they were heading. Gabi' had had time to explore Aryn but not as much as she would have liked. With the Blutwald war looming over there heads as it was, she was honestly scared to stray too far from the main Aryn den site. Gabitrix wasn't a fighter, and she knew better then to put herself in a situation where that may just well be the case due to her own pride and curiosity.
His question gets a quick blink and Gabi' shakes her head somewhat, "Not.. really. What do you know of the Aryn wolves?"
she questions casually, her throat clearing as she does so with a polite 'ahem'. "I have yet to really meet them all or get to know them.. it would be helpful to hear what you think of them as well? So I can better establish friendships.."
her accent was thicker as she spoke, the subtle sign that she was thinking very hard about just exactly what it was she wanted to say.
Alcatraz smiled a bit at his best friend’s accent. He himself had one, very slight and barely noticeable however. But Alcatraz had tried hard to distance himself from his family back when he was young. But her question was very odd to him. He, after all, was one of the founders of Aryn…. how was he even supposed to start? ”Well… they are a noble, hardworking group…”
He said, feeling strange describing that to her, because of course she knew that already! She had certainly lived here long enough to know how the Arynians were as a group. He soon abandoned his attempt to describe them. There were too many different members… ”....Did you have anyone in mind?”
Gabi' shakes her head casually, "No.. not really. Just trying to get better acquainted with those in my new home.. I cannot truly thank you enough for convincing me to stay.. I love it here. I have not felt this at home since.. well.. since a long time."
Gabi' murmurs happily. Slender paws carry her easily beside her old friend, keeping pace with the larger male despite the fatigue in her face. "Have you and Athena spoken of puppies yet?"
Gabi' suddenly asks, a bemused grin tugging at the corner of her mouth, her green eyes sparkling with laughter. The thought of Alcatraz covered in puppies brought a warm feeling to Gabi's heart, as well as a wonderfully amusing image to her head.
Alcatraz shrugged at her answer, ”I find myself fond of Charaka, of course. And Lawson, a Courser, is very gentle. I’d imagine you two would get along. Raghaalr as well is a kind spirit, even if quiet. She was one of the first members to join…”
Alcatraz trailed off again… there were too many to continue this method. He smiled as she said she felt like she was home. ”I do too. And I feel the same. It does feel like home here, especially now that you have joined. I’ve never felt more like I belonged, not since we were pups.”
Alcatraz agreed with a happy smile.
Alcatraz looked shyly happy at that question. ”Well, nothing is certain, but we should hope that we may have puppies soon.”
He said. Athena and he had only recently become mates, so neither were in any great rush, but at the same time they were both eager to start their family together. It was uncertain at this time, however, when exactly they may come.
She nods as she listens, ears twitching curiously now and then, "I have not met some of those you mention.. Lawson yes! I met him. He was quite a dear,"
Gabi' drawls fondly. The dark pelted male had been a pleasure to sit and talk with along the stream when she first came to Aryn. She moves around a fallen log, keeping pace with the male at her side, a growing stiffness setting into the space between her shoulder blades. She ignores it, brushing off the feeling as simply her body healing from the fight. Anyone would be stiff after an injury, even a small one. The stress alone was enough to tighten the muscles in her shoulders.
When he answer her about the puppies, Gabitrix's ears perk and a smile springs to life, "I could wish for nothing more! Oh Alcatraz, they will be absolutely lovely! And should you ever need a sitter, well you know I would protect them with my life,"
she coos cheerfully. The idea of puppies bringing a bounce to her step. "Oh dear.. I hope Lady Athena is aware of the type of pup you were.."
she adds as an after thought, green eyes sliding bemused in the direction of her old friend.
Alcatraz smiled, nodding at her words. He was not surprised Gabitrix and Lawson got along well, they were quite similar. He leaped on top of the fallen log and then off of it, landing with a heavy thud as he continued to walk at the pale she-wolf’s side. He glanced at her sideways. She was such a graceful wolf. He noticed that she was a bit stiff in her movements today, though. ”Are you alright?”
He asked her.
Alcatraz smiled affectionately at her offer. ”I know you will…”
He said. He was thrilled at how excited Gabitrix was for him. He would certainly need her support. ”You will be the most wonderful aunt to them.”
Alcatraz said. He knew that he and Gabi were not blood related, but she was closer to him than any of his other siblings had been. He wanted her to be a part of his children’s lives. He snorted as she brought up himself as a pup. ”Yes, well. My pups will obey me and I will make sure they are safe.”
He asserted. Athena had too much loss in her life. He would not
let their pups act as recklessly as he often had.
Gabitrix 'tsks' him gently, "Yes, yes, I will be ok. I wish you would all stop worrying. Not all of us are built for war and bruises you know,"
she chides. Green eyes narrow with hidden amusement however, which soon turns into joy when the subject returns to puppies once more. "And when they decide to disobey you, I will make sure they are safe,"
Gabi' jests, a faint chuckle of laughter leaving her. Alcatraz had been a handful as a pup, but Gabitrix knew that he wasn't as bad as he thought he was. She hoped his children were born with the same sense of purpose, of need for adventure and beauty.
Her gaze swings around questionably after a moment, "Now.. where are we headed?"
she asks of him, her steps slowing slightly. She was excited to see a beautiful place again, to help wipe away the memories of battle that still stubbornly lingered. Though she wouldn't admit it however, she was beginning to grow rather tired. Was she getting old already?! Heavens no..
Alcatraz lowered his ears sheepishly as she chided him. He smiled as she said she would keep his children safe. He knew that he could trust her. It made him feel much better to have her support in helping him raise his growing family. No, their
growing family. ”Thank you.”
Alcatraz smirked at her sideways as she asked where they were going. He thought he had an idea. ”How about the High Country? There will be some wonderful views from there.”
Alcatraz said waiting for her reply in hopes that she would be in agreement.
She nods her head in agreement, "That sounds wonderful!"
The high country; she wasn't completely sure she had visited this part of Aryn yet and so the idea of it filled her with excitement. It was just like when they were pups! Setting out together to find and see wonderful new and beautiful places, of course now it was Alcatraz taking her! She smiled at the thought of Alcatraz doing the same with his future pups; bringing them all over to see the beauty of the world. She hoped he did at least.
Gabi' walks quietly beside Alcatraz for a long time, her tail swaying from side to side. She wasn't going to admit it but she had grown increasingly tired, her joints aching and her back sore. Teeth clenched stubbornly as she fought the feeling of fatigue. She wanted to see the beautiful sights so badly, she ignored the burning in her muscles. One day she would take a day to rest, but today she was spending it with her friend.
Alcatraz walked beside his friend, taking in the beautiful day and just enjoying her company. Sometimes when he closed his eyes for a moment he liked to imagine that they are in their old territory, as cubs. It was easy to do with her scent so close and the distinct sound of her graceful steps at his side. And then he glances sideways and was back in the present, which was, in fact, even more pleasurable than the old memories. Gabitrix was such a beautiful young wolf, and they had a home now that would never be taken away from them. They would be safe together forever.
He felt himself tiring as well as they climbed the slopes of the High Country. He glanced at Gabitrix as he began to limp slightly on his injured hind paw. He noticed she seemed to be struggling a bit as well. ”We aren’t as young as we used to be, are we?”
He said with a sad smile.
She huffs at his words, ears twitching back, but smiles coyly in his direction, "Speak for yourself, old man!"
Indeed, they weren't pups anymore, and between their healing battle wounds they both sounded like wheezing elderly wolves trying to trudge up the mountain side. Her shoulders burned, the sensation beginning to trickle into the rest of her muscles along her back and legs. Gabi' pays it no mind however, keeping the smile on her face and her focus ahead of them. They were going to have a good day, just one good day, and nothing was going to get in the way of that. Sleep is for the dead anyway, right?
