the chicken dream

(This is the write-up of an actual dream I had roughly two nights ago, plus major dream symbol interpretations and a few thoughts. See deviation description for the reason behind my category choice.)

I was some random Antonio Banderas character. I'd been captured by a weird group of people who would only let me go if I fought a chicken. In a small arena. Oookay. At any rate, I wasn't scared, I knew I'd kick the chicken's butt but the other people seemed to think I'd die.

I went into a dark area where they said I could prepare for the fight, but a bunch of people tried to beat me up. I remember a girl character suddenly being around who was a friend (or at least not an enemy) so I was half protecting her and half trying to hold my own in the dark versus a dozen strong men. I won in the end and went back out to find myself in the arena. (It didn't really look like a real arena but that's what it was meant to be in the dream.)

I told them to hurry up and bring on the chicken. A conveyer belt started in one corner of the arena and out came... a large wild cat?? It was sort of orange in color with very thick bristly fur. The bad guys were cheating and didn't even bother with their stupid chicken apparently.

The cat rushed forward to attack and bit me on the arm but it was sort of half-hearted, like it knew it was trained to do this but I hadn't specifically done anything to piss it off. I looked into its eyes and did my best to feel like I really loved this animal and wanted it to be my friend. I petted it and it decided I was cool, which really annoyed the bad guys. But I told them I'd won their stupid challenge and I was leaving. Preferably with the cat.

At this point I was turning into Riddick (refrence to him taming that wild alien animal in the prison on Crematoria). Dame Vako shows up and tries to convince me not to leave. Everyone else has turned into Necromongers. Apparently I'd had some sort of vaguely romantic past with her while ruling the Necromongers but as far as I was concerned, it was over.

Then I walked into my room to pack up my things and suddenly I was the real me. And my belongings were stuff I'd own (as opposed to Riddick). So I started packing and thinking I should be sure I got that big cat to leave with me... and suddenly Candy is laying curled up on the floor like she was napping there. (Candy is my real-life family's cat.) I think I decided the other big cat would be okay on it's own and I'd better take Candy with me. I was trying to figure out how I was gonna carry all my stuff (there was too much) AND the cat... without losing hold of her as I figured she'd probably try to get out of my arms and explore once we got outside... not to mention HOW I was gonna travel in the first place, or where I was going... and then the dream got really stupid so I won't bother writing the rest out and it ended shortly thereafter anyways.

Then I woke up.

Dream Symbol Analysis. Source: SoulFuture Dream Dictionary

chicken: Timidity, fear, backing out, chickening out; Somebody young, inexperienced or unsophisticated, a spring chicken; Counting on something prematurely, counting your chickens before they hatch; Something that cannot function independently, a chicken and egg situation.

cat: A cat within a dream often symbolizes a need to use your intuition; The Goddess within; Grace, agility, sleekness, power; Being mysterious or secretive; A cat may denote somebody who is being catty or bitchy; An omen of good or bad luck; Cats are known for their ability to survive unusual situations or trying circumstances, having resilience, having nine lives; Causing a stir, setting the cat amongst the pigeons; Finding different ways of doing things, or recognizing that there is more than one way to skin a cat; Being speechless, aghast, cat got your tongue.

fight: Unresolved internal conflict Seeing a tough time through; An unconcious stance of resistance against something that needs to be acknowledged; Feeling a need to defend or protect yourself; Competing with others.

Thoughts:

Interesting that "cat" can mean "the Goddess within" considering I've had interest in the Goddess concept lately thanks to conversations with new friends and reading The Da Vinci Code. Also "having resilience, having nine lives"... it surprises me I'm still here.

Sooo the main message of this dream is: "Don't give up, follow your intuition and fight your fears"? =O Yay for subconscious encouragement!

Heh. Want more? Lots more subconscious weirdness at my dream journal: [link]

Due to the random references to fictional characters I decided to throw this into fan-fiction. This would probably be the crossover from hell... but whatever. I couldn't find a decent category in Non-Fiction... cuz this is really happened, just that it was in my head while I was dreaming. What category is THAT lol.

I don't usually post dreams here but I'm doing this one because it has special meaning and along with another recent dream about Snape, it appears my subconscious is desperately trying to tell me not to give up, and to follow my heart.

Dream Symbol Interpretation Sites:

[link] - Soul Future Dream Dictionary - I like this one the best and use it almost exclusively.

[link] - Dream Moods - This is a good place to look up more obscure references, their database is huge. I just don't like the floaty-popup ads and they used to be even worse.

LOL it was until the end where someone I didn't wanna think about showed up. Go fig. :o Plus I liked the Riddick part but that didn't last long. My subconscious likes to torment itself or something. :stab:

Awesome dream! It actually made sense... in a way..... more than my dreams make sense anyway. Nice job! I think I might started writing my dreams down like this...

It's fun! (Well, for the good dreams anyways.) Especially when you go look up dream symbols and find some freaky translation of something you thought wasn't all that useful. I used to be real gung-ho about looking up every single symbol, then I got lazy, then I forgot / didn't care... lately I just look up a few of the most important-seeming ones if I want. My brain is telling me any random combination of the following lately: 1) don't give up; 2) I'm okay, I'm not a bad person, 3) follow my heart, use my intuition; 4) get the heck outa where I'm living. LOL yeah... can you tell what's been bothering me lately? :P

If you get a livejournal for dream posting, lemme know! :boogie:

Incoming links! And I think I'll put these up in the deviation description too. :mwahaha:

[link] - Dream Moods - They've changed their site a little, the evil popups I hated before seem to be gone (hmm nope there goes a floaty ad thingy) and there are more things to do at the site. But this is a good place to look up more obscure references, their database is huge.

Hmm it looks like I need to look around Dream Moods again... I've come to rely on Soul Future because they give many possible interpretations for a single symbol. But it looks like Dream Moods might be pulling from a more specific interpretation-related source, some symbols have connotations that Soul Future doesn't even touch. Hmm hmm.
