Anthro Challenge #152: Foxblaster 2 by Tinselfire Anthro Challenge #152: Foxblaster 2 by Tinselfire
My entry for Anthro Challenge #152:
Anthro Challenge #152 - 3 Colour ChallengeWelcome to the 152nd installment of Anthro Challenge!
Hoping everyone has a great New year and is looking forward to a New Year of Anthro Challenges!
AnthroCommunity | anthrochallenge
Contest Deadline: February 28th
Time Deadline: 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time |
AC Theme: 3 Colour Challenge
This month's theme is 3 Colour Challenge
Time for another round of the 3 colour challenge!  This challenge is open to draw anything you want!  However, it must be done using only the 3 colours below.  You can add one background colour.  You CANNOT mix the colours, smudge them, dilute them or do anything to change the colours.  This challenge forces you to work with shapes and forms by limiting your colour pallet.  It also helps you to think outside the box when it comes to design elements.  Think of a Tshirt.  If

It is nothing short of a miracle that this piece exists.
I have tried to join the Anthro Challenge since August last year, but every month something has gotten in the way. Either I have ended up preoccupied, or I have gotten the deadline wrong, or I have just plain forgotten (Anthro Challenge #149 was a special case). This piece is quite simple and quickly put together, both technically and conceptually, but I felt this month I just had to finally get my act together and have an entry ready before something unforeseen happened.
As is probably apparent, the base colour I have chosen is black.

There is a lineart version in my scrapbook.

Today I am thankful...
... for an energy drink that actually tastes better when dilluted with four parts water. Good as Battery seems hard to find these days.
... for the ability to see fantastic detail in what another artist intended to be random scribbles.
... and very much so, that the new landlord repaired the radiators. Most welcome as the mercury settles in the basement of hell.

Thank you. I was scared out of my mind when I saw the contest conditions, but he turned out quite the handsome blue tod.

Nice! :D

Thank you. I must admit, I was scared out of my mind over this challenge. Doing anything with these three colours seemed impossible!
But as it turned out, and as many others certainly proved, apparently not impossible enough.

If you have not already, please do give the other entries a look. Some of my favourites:

You're welcome! And yeah, it's surprising how such colors can work together :)

Whoa, nice!
I really like the style, it reminds me of a retro video game.

Thank you <3

That is a nice idea. I just might make a demo if I can find the time.

Thank you. This was something quite out of the ordinary for me, both with the limited colour scheme and the digital lineart, and feel both were quite providing experiences.

It also marks the return of the Foxblaster. But where he goes from there, that is another story...

I love the colours of this and everything here reminds me of classic Sci-Fi. For some reason, it makes me think of Logan's Run.

Thank you, especially for mentioning the colours. The colour scheme was a big challenge indeed. Part because all of the colours are on the same side of the colour wheel, the warmest colour is a cool green, and none of them is suitable for flood lighting - something I use perhaps more frequently than I should. But also because quite honestly, I was scared out of my mind to work with pastels. These are colours I associate strongly with webcomics heavy on self-inserts, or redecorating bathrooms in an attempt to raise property value.

Then an old Hulk comic I read as a child came to mind, one that was originally neon but had been at the mercy of the sun for too long. And i realised that indeed, there is something very enjoyable I associate with those three colours as well.

Never seen Logan's Run in its entirety, but get the impression it might be one of the most terrifying films imaginable. Stories where the horror aspect is eternal life without eternal youth have almost made their way into common knowledge, but the reverse does not hold as true.
Mstislav Rostropovich (sp?), possibly the greatest cellist of all time, never even rehearsed the work of Bach before his sixties, as he claimed it was "too hard" for him to do justice. Van Gogh supposedly never painted before he turned twenty-eight. Hokusai openly claimed to only have begun understanding art on a technical level at seventy. Even Dürer - in my opinion, possibly the most talented artist yet to live - only came to his right after thirty years of working experience. As for my own resume... well, let us just say that up to twenty-five, that is a horror story in itself.
Logan's Run is more than a story about a decadent worldwide suicide cult. It is a setting where human achievement pretty much cannot exist.

I believe the folder for the anthro contest has been set up now. Remember to resubmit it there before the deadline. :0

Tbh I was thinking about joining and one of my ideas for what I was going to do is actually kind of similar to what you've already done. Something like one of them "vintage-y" cartoon or sfw pin-up posters featuring my gangster stoat.

Woke up to a big surprise. Apparently it moved to the right folder while I was asleep o.O
The anthro volunteers are good.

By all means, if you find the time, please do. I seem to remember that Cutthroat did excellent in the flapper challenge, so would love to see how you have her strike fear into the world of pastels.

Okay, that's awesome. XD

The 3 r's thing had me cackling like a hyena for a good minute and the art itself has a dystopian future feel to it.

The simple colours are well done and perfectly contrast one another as well.

It also has the vibe of a 70's or 80's sci-fi movie.

Why, thank you.

The original tagline was "One fox, one gun, revenge", in the manner of hilariously cheesy half-hearted taglines of action stories in all ages, trying way too hard to be gruff and grim. But then I remembered nobody remembers the specifics of such taglines - the only ones that stand the test of time are those that know subtlety and moderation - Robocop is a real masterpiece there - or those that are intentionally or unintentionally hilarious.
Given that a blue fox on a quest for vaguely specified vengeance does not provide the best conditions for grand drama, went all out with the second option. Very good to hear it worked out well.

PS: I have started reading your Zootopia AU. It is a bit tough getting into, but the writing is very good. Always nice seeing a thylacine anthro too.

You're welcome. :D

And you're right. Robocop does stand the test of time and a few of the other movies of the era.

Things like Alien (the first one was great, but I LOVED Aliens, and the third... well, 2 was good), and terminator were noteworthy.

I'm glad you went with that option as it leaves a lot open-ended and allows for some hilarious times.

I can envision a retro movie with that vixen on some quest for revenge with tons of puns and one-liners, so I gotta say I love it. XD

Also, I'm glad you're liking it. It's one of my favourite stories to write currently. The thylacine and her mate are creations of the artist behind the cover.

She did an amazing job and allowed me to use her OC's and I'm all too thrilled to share dreams with others. ^_^
