Cerna is known as a witch, a conjurer, in general someone to avoid while traveling through the edge of the darker forests.  While portraying an old hunched woman to others, in actuality the worn figure is an old dryad.  What once was a  creature of beauty and nature, is now a husk of twisted bark and flesh with holes showing the bit of borrowed power she has left from making deals with other beings. In her desperation to lash out in anger, she gave away bits of herself in deals to darker powers so that only a husk of what she was remains as a reminder of the mistakes she's made.  Although the rage has subsided, what she has become has made her a recluse living alongside the creatures of the forest with her abilities dwindled to the knowledge she's gained despite her connection to nature broken.  The dryad has become a witch, living off of herbal concoctions, natural creations and the curses that the demonic pact of her staff wrings from its depths.

On occasion there is a traveler who makes it to her doorstep out of curiosity.  If they have requests but nothing to give, she has them make a bargain with the spirit within her staff.  If they have a gift of value, she'll offer something in return.  If they have demands, she consumes them or makes them a part of the garden.
