This was a piece done as a gift from Marvel to one of the board members at Disney. The art, which features Mrs. Sandberg as Spider-Woman, was done by Chris Bachalo and myself.

I'd really love to respond to this appropriately but I don't speak the language. Sorry!

"Esta es Jessica Drew, quien siendo niña, mientras visitaba el laboratorio de su padre, fue mordida por una araña venenosa. Forzado a utilizar un suero de arácnidos sin experimentar, el Doctor Drew, no sólo salvó la vida de su hija, sin saberlo, le dio increíbles poderes de arácnido. Poderes que ahora ella utiliza para luchar contra el mal, a la vez que apoya a la justicia como ¡La Mujer Araña!"

Hey Mr Townsend : )

As a hobby pencil/inker/painter, I can't help but gawk at your amazing holding lines!

How did you use the windsor to make that thick line - under the knee she's kneeling on - stop when it intersects the shin of the other leg?
- Do you follow through a little, then white out the tail?
- Or do you stop a little early and then go back with the 102 to shape it?

Also if it's not too much to ask, how did you make the white grass? Was that white ink? (can't imagine trying to pull that off with doing the black inks!)

Thanks for the kind words!Regarding the line by her knee, I just inked it normally and then when back in with white ink to create the halo. On larger areas where halo's are used, I usually create the halo by stopping short with the ink. On smaller, more delicate areas though, its sometimes easier to just go back in with the white ink to create a nice, crisp halo.

As for the grass, I just inked it as I normally would and then went over it with white ink to create yet another layer of depth and texture.

Hope this helps!

Hey again Tim,
I really appreciate it that you take the time to reply to people when you can :) I'm sure your DA fans love you for it!

I'm surprised that you approached the knee with white ink instead!! What kind are you using? at the moment I've been working with Winsor&Newton designers white gouache, but it's not exactly ideal - comes out as a transluscent layer of white --> does that matter when it comes to reproduction?

awesome... what is kinda cool is me and the girls were just down at Disney... and the bg reminds me a bit of "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween" party. Which was awesome. From one dad to another, take your wife/kids to Disney in October.... just saying.

We're actually going to Epcot this Friday. It doesnt hurt that the Food and Wine Festival is going on at the same time. :)

yep, the Food and Wine festival rocks... my wife and I were very happy that Disney was driving us everywhere. Lots of countries = lots of beer and wine to try... awesome time.

If you or your better half like Margaritas, my wife got a frozen one at a kiosk (Mexico I believe) that she said was amazing.

Have fun!!
