GAMBIT 1 cover by TimTownsend GAMBIT 1 cover by TimTownsend
Heres the old alternate cover to GAMBIT #1 by Brandon Peterson :iconbrandonpeterson: and myself. Ive always had somewhat of a technical bent to my inks, moreso in the 90's than these days, and it worked better with some pencilers than others. I always thought Brando' and I played to each others strengths when we worked togehter. Ive worked with him more than a few times over the years and have always been pleased with the results. Hes an AMAZING talent. Ive known very few people who can pencil, ink, AND color, on the level that he does.

I FIGURED IT OUT!!!!

It's X-Cutioner. So pretty much...

...nobody.

(that took me ALL damn night)
(i'm a google-jedi)

I'm coloring though so I needed a reference for the guy...

Did this cover ever see print? I like this better than the original Gambit #1. (the one with the gold lettering and a cut-out of him over top of the text)

It seemed like Marvel was doing alot of that back then...

This is F'n epic. I'm really diggin how they're comin out of the cards at him. Brandon DEF nailed this one, as he most often did.
I love how all the lines are so clean, and then you get to the outside of the cards, and it's nice and loose. It balances well.

Another awesome ink job! I can pencil, ink, and color but I just started doing it cause I had to to finish my own stuff. I never really knew if I did it right or not I just did it. Ive never heard of Brandon Peterson though so Ima check him out. I hope hes as good as you say he is so I can admire another great artist! Thanks again!

Wow. Brando' has been one of the most popular mainstream comic artists since the early 90's. Im surprised youve never heard of him!

Yeah I feel pretty dumb to. Especially cause Ive seen most of his stuff and own a lot of books with his work! I just recently got into the actual artists themselves in recent years and started studying work based on artists as opposed to characters or just browsing google. Thats why DA is so cool! But yeah... I saw a lot of his stuff when I was a kid and never really cared about who drew the pictures just if they were pretty or not so thats probably why... now I know better though!

i've always felt that brando was a very under rated artist, it just seemed like he never got the right book to show case his talent to wider audience. great stuff man, it's been a while since i've looked at this cover.

this is a fantastic piece Tim, you and the artist really do play nicely together, so to speak. I wish I knew more about Gambit, but I stopped collecting prior to him appearing. Of course, 22 years later, I'm back into comics, and wanna find a place to start again... sigh.

Lines! So many lines! Every time I see some of Brando's older work, I always think the same thing. Look at all those lines! hehe. It's a hatch-fest. I agree..Brando's a total rock star. Guy can do it all.

This was either fun or a pain. I can't tell for sure. So many lines! You rocked it though.
