Wow, it's been a loooong time since I hopped on DeviantArt. I've missed this place!!!! I've been using Instagram and my blog as the primary spots for posting fresh work. However, I miss the real artist centric sense of community here on DA. I'm going to make an effort to bring this account back to life.

Anyway, please follow on Instagram @tomtraverspics

Also I created a Facebook fanpage for my original property, Battle Skull. www.facebook.com/battleskull

I've been creating a lot of art and content, doing conventions pretty regularly. It's a good time for me creatively right now. Hopefully I can meet some fellow Deviants in person at a future show. I will post show dates and all that here too.

Anyway, I miss DA, feels good to visit again!!!

Hi,

Wow, I have been really out of touch with the DeviantArt community. I'd like to start using the site more often. Hopefully I'll make that happen.

Anyway, I've been posting lots on Instagram @tomtraverspics follow there if you dig my art.

I also just opened a store with some cool inventory... www.tomtraversart.storenvy.com

Thanks for visiting!

I published a book of drawings through Lulu.com

www.lulu.com/shop/tom-travers/…

The art within is nearly 100% exclusive to the book, little to none of it has been posted here or on my blod, twitter, etc. It's fun random energetic imaginative stuff. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks!

Check out this belated Halloween tale on my blog...

Fun experiment in fast story drawing. This was done in a single day, on Halloween itself in fact, during lunch breaks and on the train. Not polished work by any means but fun.

Enjoy!

Thanks

I've got a couple of things in the works right now that I am very excited about. Art is not my full time job at this point, so these projects of passion take a lot of time to complete. However, I wanted to talk a little bit about what I have got going on for anyone who might be interested.

Here's what's on the drawing table these days:

1. Battle Skull - full color adventure starring, you guessed it, my original character Battle Skull. The story is told in single page illustrations with little to no text aside from SFX. I am very excited about this book. I can't wait to hold the finished product in my hands and share it with people.

2. Shark Cop - a one shot comic book. The art will be raw pencil. The story and characters are fun, ridiculous. This is my tribute to TMNT, Toxic Crusaders and Greg Capullo's Spawn/Creech work if that makes any sense haha. This should be done sooner than Battle Skull, it is a bit less involved, art production is moving along at a decent rate on this.

3. Artbooks - I am putting together several artbooks. One will feature my doodles I do at work. One will be a fanart centric collection. One will be an all around portfolio book. These should be surfacing pretty soon. I will make them available online.

4. Children's Books - I have several original children's book concepts I will be self-publishing soon. I will also be submitting/pitching the concepts to publishers.

I think that covers in a basic way the stuff I have going on at the moment. There should be some material ready to share soon. I will post details/previews here on DA and on my blog www.traversart.blogspot.com.

These projects are very exciting to me because they are pure expressions of myself. They are truly personal projects with no politics. I hope this enthusiasm shines through in the finished work and people enjoy it. Thanks for your interest.

Call to all creative folks...

I am trying to find the best options for printing my own books. I have several projects in the works. A comic book, full color illustrated book, book of pencil drawings and more...Can anyone recommend any good online publishing companies where I can get physical copies of my books and have them be available for order online as well? I guess print on demand places are the best. I am familiar with Lulu and may use it, but I am having some issues with them. so yeah, looking for suggestions other than Lulu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi everyone,

This message is particularly aimed at inkers and colorists, digital painters...

Is anyone interested in coloring/painting up one of my recent pencil design drawings?? I'm going to do my own color versions soon but I would love to see some other people's takes. If you're interested, note me or e-mail and I will send the high resolution image your way.

Thanks
Happy New Year!

I've been a David Finch fan for a long time. He first caught my eye with his work on Ascension at Top Cow. I still consider Ascension to be his finest work all around, but I dig a lot of his other stuff too, I buy everything he does. Needless to say, I've been reading his current Batman work regularly. I felt the first few issues he did with Scott Williams on inks were wonderful. The work he did with Richard Friend on The Dark Knight was great too. Now he's doing all of his work on the computer and inking himself.

I wanted to discuss this topic with fellow artists and art fans. Personally, I think the 3D model work has it's strengths but overall has far less appeal than Finch's previous pencilling. It doesn't have the same flow and imagination, the life, that Finch's stuff had before. The figures look stiff and unimaginative. Finch used to have a very cool, stylish approach to anatomy and faces. It wasn't perfect but it was cool, fun, interesting to look at.

As I said, I think the new digital work has its strengths. It's clean, clear, consitent. His Scarecrow looks pretty wicked. There's just something missing though.

What do you think? Comment please, I'm interested to hear people's thoughts.

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this in a previous post, sorry if I am repeating myself.

Anyway, my dream is to write and illustrate children's books. I love the medium and I feel that it's just right for me. The work I post in my gallery here on DeviantArt is generally just fun random experimentation, learning experience kind of stuff. Most of my finished work over the last couple of years has been done in crafting my children's book concepts and submitting them to publishers.

I've started up a blog where I will post artwork and writings that relate to the children's material I produce. I will also chronicle my quest to get published. Self-publishing is something I am aware of as well and very interested in. I'll talk about all this stuff periodically and post artwork.

Here ya go:

I just heard of the passing of Jean "Moebius" Giraud. The art world has lost in irreplaceable talent.

I discovered his work when I was in high school. It blew my mind. The imagination, vision, draftsmanship, fearless experimentation, just incredible. He's been and continues to be a true inspiration of mine.

The one comfort we can always take when a great artist passes is that they will live on through their work.

Thanks for everything, Mr. Giraud. Rest in peace.

I write many songs and play/record them for myself. My brother liked this one and wanted to perform it and share it.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ArKQ6…

Yeah, so that's my bro performing a song I wrote about my dog Petey who passed away not too long ago.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the song.

Thanks!

Hope to post more art soon, life has not allowed much time for completing personal work and/or scanning/posting haha.
