Wanna know what annoys me about pairng OCs with actual characters from other media that are already in a relationship or have a established love interest?

Is that the established relationship (hinted or confirmed) will just be smashed aside in order to make the OC look more perfect and more "She/he is the one!" Regardless of how stalkerksh it is or if it contradicts established characterisation!

It's the hallmark of lazy writing. It's difficult to make a couple work, especially a non-cannon couple. Now I'm all for breaking cannon for the sake of keeping things fresh but it needs to be done right.

Making a cannon love interest a dumpster fire of a person is not only lazy but it's incredibly cliche and really doesn't make the non cannon couple look or function any better or have better chemistry.

But overwhelmingly, it's that good writing takes work and a lot of people don't want to put that in.

It's the character derailment that gets to me the most. 'Hey, let's turn a sweet and kind character into a mega bitch to justify my ship! That's the making of a good story!'

Even when the relationship is a catwoman-esque relationship, the negative traits are still exaggerated.

Yeah im guilty of exaggerating Ciel Phanthomhive but that's just literally how his character is in the show.

i mean...God...it's like the Timm Jimmy Power Hour, they exaggerate  both characters equals just to make everyone else sane. I get Jimmy had some crush on Cindy but never to the extent he did in the special.

They want their ship/wish fulfillment to work, and what better way than to make the rival look like a fool? Or, you know, make them very unpleasant even if they're the complete opposite?

Agreed.

It’s even worse if the writer doesn’t like the love interest of the canon character they and so they make the canon love interest either dead or an awful, abusive person when they weren’t in canon just so the OC will be the good one for the character.

In general though, I prefer canon couples than OC/crossover couple. Unless the character is single or it’s not obviously stated than yeah I’m cool with OC/canon ships. Like I don’t the Merida/Hiccup pairing, but I like Merida/Jack Frost pairing because technically Jack could be seen as single in how the relationship between him and the Tooth Fairy wasn’t clear if there is a “thing” between them or just platonic.

There are ways to write an OC/Canon couple without making them horrible, it’s just very rare in the realm of fanfiction.
