Background:
Rodney grew up in a small country town north of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was raised around horses before he could walk. His father was a breeder of racehorses, but had short luck when it came for making a profit. When he was in his preteens, his father eventually had to leave the business and the sell the horses. He had never been so devastated. All through high school Rodney worked a minimum wage job to help support his family. Once he graduated, he decided to move to Oklahoma City and try to get a job working at Remington Park. After lots of asking and finding the right people, he managed to snag a job as a groom. He couldn't have been happier, until one day an exercise rider for the barn he was working for quit. The barn trainer needed a replacement, as the horses needed working despite the circumstances. He offered and the trainer agreed out of desperation. It was that morning, on a small grey colt, named O'Donner Malley, that he found his love for riding race horses. It grew from there. After a couple of years working on his technique and getting more rides, he decided to test for his racing license. He did well and was given the official title of 'Jockey'. He spend another year going around to the smaller tracks around where he lived to get rides. Riding mostly in claiming races, with a few maiden races under his belt, he tried to get better horses. Despite that he had only won a handful of times, he caught the eye of Tony Sandford. TLEC had a horse running in a race Rodney was to ride in. He noticed his horse having some trouble, causing a block around the final turn. When Tony saw how easily Rodney navigated his horse through the traffic jam and out into the front, he decided to try and hire the jockey. When Tony told him there was a big equine operation opening some miles southwest of OKC that were needing jockeys and exercise riders, he didn't hesitate to apply. He received a phone call promptly to come out for a ride. Hes been with TLEC ever since as an exercise rider and now a successful jockey. He hopes to see his career continue to be successful and full of enjoyment.
