"Big Jim" Miller, Supervising Director of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, tweeted thus:

twitter.com/TheBiggestJim/stat…

That's right -- WILLIAM SHATNER guest stars in an upcoming episode of the series! So far, Miller has not revealed who/what character Shatner plays (Miller is bound by a non-disclosure contract that prevents him from revealing more details). Regardless, this is more amazing news from a TV series that never seems short on surprises!

As if that wasn't awesome enough, the episode also features Felicia Day who, along with Patton Oswalt, plays one of the "Mads" (Mad Doctors) on the new MST3K series, debuting on Netflix in April (Oswalt is also an MLP alum; he played Quibble Pants in the S6 episode "Stranger Than Fan Fiction"). To quote Rainbow Dash, "So AWESOME!!"

Ponyversary -- a portmanteau of "pony" and "anniversary."

It was during the first weekend of February, 2011, that I more or less became a "brony," i.e., a fan of the animated TV series, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I was on vacation in Florida and when I wasn't hanging out with friends at various theme parks, I spent my "downtime" surfing the web. That's when I discovered websites like Equestria Daily and the now-defunct Ponibooru, and drawings like this one. I had already seen a few episodes of the show, including the two-part pilot, and I enjoyed what I saw. But after that one weekend in Florida the little light when on and I said to myself, "Oh, NOW I get it!" The rest, as they say, is history.

(Coincidentally enough, I was once again in Florida last weekend, hanging out with friends and visiting theme parks. This time I stayed at Disney's Art of Animation Resort, in their "Lion King" themed suite. Check out these photos of the place: www.google.com/search?q=disney… )

I plan to make this an extra-special FIFTH Ponyversary! Help me celebrate by watching ponies and then watching me draw ponies (and maybe a few other cartoon animals), tonight on RooCam LIVE! I hope to see you then!

First off, my apologies for not getting back to those who left birthday messages with a personal thank you -- I'll attend to that in the very near future. For now -- thank you ALL for the well-wishes!  I really appreciate it!!

Just as a reminder, I usually host a cartoons-and-art livestream, RooCam LIVE!, every Monday at 9:30pm CDT (0230 UT/GMT). I'm also on-the-air at the same time on Friday night, right after Babstream, hosted by my friend, TDotBabs

And I often broadcast on random weeknights.  For more info go to www.rootoon.com/roocam/ or keep an eye on my Facebook and Twitter feeds (@ tim_kangaroo).  Thanks!  And remember -- Keep Calm and Pony On!
I had a fantastic time at Bronycon last weekend, hanging out with :iconkturtle: and :iconnanook123: and the 9600+ other bronies who showed up at this amazing event! I saw my art on sidewalks, billboards, room signs and backdrops, and I was on a panel with Heather Breckel (colorist for IDW's MLP comic book). Fellow Bronycon staff artist :iconcentchi: and I designed a banner for AMC's Comic Book Men who were at the convention to film an upcoming segment of the show (I was told the banner later sold at the charity auction for $500). I also did pretty well in the Vendors' Hall. (FYI and for future reference: I wasn't listed in the program book, but I was at the Bronycon Design Team table, #615; and I will likely be there again next year.)

Thanks to everypony who helped make this such a wonderful and memorable experience for me. Season 5 is on the horizon, so next year's Bronycon promises to be even bigger and better! I hope to see you there!

Thanks to everyone who left me birthday wishes on my profile page last summer -- you're the BEST!

As for me -- I'm the WORST at keeping up on things like this.  But I figure better late than never.

Thanks again!  And stay tuned -- I have more art, news and other stuff to share!

I'm back on staff at Bronycon! Back in February, I joined the convention's Design Team, working with fellow DA members :iconnanook123: and :iconatryl:, along with several other very talented "brony" artists. And, just like last year, I'm very honored and excited to be a part of this event.

I should note, however, that part of my agreement with Bronycon is that all the work I do for for them belongs to the convention and I won't be able to post any of it until after the convention in August (though I'm not completely certain of that just yet). I'm totally okay with that. But it also means that, unfortunately, I'll have less stuff to contribute to my FA and DA galleries over the next few weeks. But I'll still try to sneak in as much non-convention art as I can. Wish me luck!

The latest episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ("Sleepless in Ponyville") reveals that, in addition to being a powerful and magnificent princess, Princess Luna is also a "dream walker," i.e., a being who can enter the dreams of others.  She uses this power to dispense advice to young Scootaloo on how to face her fears.  I found this especially interesting, since one of my very first works of MLP fan-art, Luna Rising, is based on a dream (read the description for details).  This dream-inspired drawing led me to create other works of pony fan-art -- artwork that was featured at Bronycon, Everfree, Equestria Daily and in a New York art gallery.  This one dream from many months ago led me on an amazing journey of creativity, fun and friendship.

Dreams can be a powerful source of inspiration.  Study your own dreams and follow them as best as you can.  You never know -- Luna may show up in one of your dreams and she may lead you on an amazing journey of your own.

A quick apology for being out of touch.  The Real World has been a little more "real" than usual lately.  Nothing serious, but it has kept me from updating my DA account as regularly as I would like.  To everyone who has faved, commented or watched me -- THANKS!  And please "stay tuned" -- more fun stuff will arrive soon!

Tuesday, 18 September, was the birthday of Douglas Glenn Colvin, better known to the world as Dee Dee Ramone. He would have been 62.  He died on June 15 2002 -- just a little over ten years ago. He and his "bruddas," Joey, Johnny and Tommy, were the core members of The Ramones. He played bass guitar for the band and was the one who shouted out the band's signature "one, two, three four!" chant at the start of nearly every Ramones song. But few people know that he was also the band's main songwriter. So, in honor of his birth, please enjoy these fine examples of his work:

I am very pleased to announce that my pony friend, Tympany, will attend EVERFREE NORTHWEST this weekend! I will, of course, accompany the good librarian as his chief aide. :)

I'm definitely looking forward to meeting all my brony friends in Seattle this weekend! Hi-ho, Tympany! Away!!

I found out from Bronycon that the posters I created for the event (which you can see in my Gallery) were completely SOLD OUT. One of the staff told me that they printed up around 350 copies of each of 5 different designs. The posters were sold for $10 each. If this information is correct, that means sales of these posters raised just a little over $17,000 dollars for the convention! That absolutely boggles my mind! I never imagined that anything I created would ever be that valuable -- never in a million years!

And before you ask: I made no money off of the sale of these posters. Nor do I want to -- that part tends to boggle the minds of my friends and family. :)

Seriously: I'm into the whole "brony" thing for fun, not for profit. As I've said elsewhere, it was an honor being named Staff Artist for Bronycon and I'm incredibly happy that I was able to contribute my work to this remarkable event.

There's a friend of mine who loves to go on and on about pursuing your dreams, never giving up hope, and all that "Pollyanna stuff." He's one of those eternal optimists you want to strangle with your bare hands. But I have now discovered, first hand, that all that Pollyanna stuff I used to politely brush off is true (and he can redeem a huge "I Told You So" anytime he wants :) ). The lesson I plan to report to Princess Celestia is this: Figure out what you really love to do, follow your inspiration and work hard at it; have a dream and hold on to it no matter what, and you WILL be amazed at where it takes you. Though, more often than not, it will take you somewhere you never imagined you would go -- never in a million years.

I bring you greetings from Equestria where I attended a most joyful celebration, decreed by Princess Celestia, and forever known as "Bronycon!"

What can I say? Four *THOUSAND* bronies! Lauren Faust barely holding back tears during the incredible reception she got at the opening ceremonies! The costumes! The colors! The music! And John de Lancie declaring, "You are going to change the world!" I am very lucky, and very happy, that I was able to contribute in my own small way to this remarkable event.

But idle hooves are Discord's playground -- so it's back to the drawing tablet! I have some early-evening matters to attend to, so the start time is very approximate tonight. But I'll try to get in as close to 9:30pm (Central) as I can! See you then!

30 June 2012:

Dear Princess Celestia,

Today I saw my artwork on a giant monitor outside of the Meadowlands Expo Center. I got my picture taken with John de Lancie. And I finally met Lauren Faust.

BEST. DAY. EVER!

Your faithful servant,
-Tympany

I just had to write a special journal and shout-out to :iconzekaire-aquanimus: (zekaire-aquanimus) who gave a 3-month DA premium membership to me for my birthday -- thanks, ZQ!  You rock!

But now I gotta get back to work -- got to draw more ponies for BroNYcon -- which is next weekend!

Late Friday night I got an email from the Anthrocon Fandom Track asking me if I was still interested in hosting a My Little Pony event at this year's convention. My immediate answer was, to quote Pinkie Pie...

"I dunno... Lemme check my schedule..."

*ahem*

No, my actual reply was, to quote Twilight Sparke...

"Yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes-yes!!!" ;)

I'm still working out the details, and I'll post them here once everything is finalized. But it looks like there WILL be an official MLP event at AC next month!

STAY TUNED!

Just a quick note to thank everyone who has faved and/or commented on any of my images, and also to all my watchers.  I can't spend as much time on DA as I would like, so I don't have the opportunity to reply to everyone for their faves, watches and comments.  But I really appreciate it -- THANKS!!!

Also, I try to adhere to a "Give a Llama/Get a Llama" policy, but I sometimes miss the notices.  So if you sent me a llama and I haven't returned the favor yet, please note me and I'll do so ASAP.

And, finally, I'm going to try to schedule another drawing session on "RooCam LIVE!" tonight.  I'm going to a local cartoonists' gathering in the evening, but I hope to be home sometime around 10:30pm CDT (0330 UT/GMT).  I will likely go live Wednesday and/or Thursday nights, as well, at the "usual" time of 9:30pm CDT (0230 UT/GMT).  Check out the RooCam LIVE! page for more info:

Tonight I mark yet another "Ponyversary":  It was just a little over one year ago, on 18 February 2011, that I uploaded my first work of MLP fanart, "Nightmare Moon":

NIGHTMARE MOON by Tim-Kangaroo

Far from being a portent of doom, she -- along with all the other ponies of Equestria -- has been a constant source of fun, wonder and inspiration.  So help me celebrate by visiting my UStream channel and watching some pony videos.  After that, watch while I draw even more ponies!
