Speech Bubbles III

Well after fighting for a couple days with my speech bubbles being pixelated for some reason (Something's messed up with the settings), I decided to use paths and shapes to see if I can create something better than before.

Whadda ya know, I like it better. The images are cleaner than the marquee tool speech bubbles I was so fond of before. It also seems to be easier to use (eliminating the step of combining shapes into one layer - this puts them all on one layer right off the bat)

Feel free to use it, download it, link it, forward it to your friends!

Okay I did everything up to the pen tool, and then I fill the shape.  However when I add in the strokes, everything is given lines like they are all separate shapes.

You did all of your pen tool shapes on the same layer with the bubble shapes?

Hrm, I've not ever had that problem.

Did you bucket fill the shapes or right click "fill path"?

I selected fill path

I just did an experiment with it in photoshop and figured out the problem.

Do not use the "Stroke path" option on the paths menu after you've filled them.

Go to your "dialogue" layer, right click, select the "blending options" and find "stroke"

Click the word stroke and then set up how you want the stroke to look (inside, outside, px thickness etc)

If this isn't quite clear check out the Speech bubbles I towards the bottom where it talks about how to stroke the dialogue bubbles.

Oh one more thought:

Are you selecting "stroke" from the paths box or stroke from the blending options?

If you select it off the path menu it would stroke each individual shape.  I just thought of that!

Is there anyway you can give me a link to your before and after fill?  And perhaps the before and after stroke?  Like screen captures with your settings intact?

I want to help ya fix it, but I can't quite visualize where the problem might lie.

What version of Photoshop are you using?

Also are you overlapping the shapes?  If you leave them unconnected, they will do that.  The shapes should overlap.

OMG, thank You for this, I'm really bad at drawing straight lines and connecting bubbles have always been a nightmare xD Also, I'd never figure that paths could be used for dialogues, ingenious!

You're welcome! I had been show now to use paths for framing my comic pages, and one day I just decided to see what it could do for my dialogue bubbles. Love the result so much I just don't even use the previous method!

I'm very glad this will help you with your works!

Spell check likes to tell me it's spelled "dialog" but that is ridiculous. Maybe it's like colour vs. color, I dunno.
