A Quiet Time

7 min read

A lot has happened this past year and DA hasn't been my focus for a while. I've been building KAGE Productions and have recently incorporated the company so we are ready for larger projects. Recently, I attended the Women in Animation Summit here in Vancouver, as well as Siggraph.

We've teamed up with Studio Izune Works this year for larger client projects and IP development! Here is our 2018 Show Reel!

<da:embed wytiwyg="1" profile="youtube" id="nI2JSMmNCGM">

I've done a bunch of work this year including manga, sports celebrity illustration sets, animated music videos, and other animated shorts. With our growing team, we're fully capable of producing series, feature films, teasers, trailers, animated shorts, game visual assets, graphic novels. Everything start-to-finish. Please don't hesitate to drop me a line with inquiries and I'll get back to you with an estimate based on your project needs!

My Patreon page is where you'll find the most up-to-date news and behind the scenes content. These include both client work (shared with Patrons with permission and for early release), as well as updates on Shadow Magic and my other original IPs. Please check it out and let me know what you think! =D

On a personal note, I've been learning about equine care and riding this past year as I've had the incredible opportunity to do so. It's been a dream since my childhood to be able to spend time with horses. They're inspiring and humbling animals. And I'm more grateful than ever for the beautiful nature I have access to here in BC. I spent some time at our family cabin on Loon Lake and visited an organic farm down the road where I can get chicken, beef, and eggs. They also have a pair of very friendly horses I got to hang out with.

My snowboarding adventures continue! I've already renewed my season pass for Cypress Mountain and plan to visit a couple of new mountains this upcoming season. Whistler/Blackcomb is always on my list, as I've only snowboarded there twice, despite it being so close by. I try to go up every week to enjoy the exercise and fly blindingly fast down a mountain on a piece of board. Yes, I've fallen and injured myself more times than I can count, but I can't seem to stop! I've been thrown off a horse a couple of times, too! I love it so much!!

I keep neglecting to update my journal here. I'm more active on Facebook lately- sorry for being so quiet here! I've also joined Instagram not too long ago! Feel free to add me there =D www.instagram.com/kage.product…

Thank you for reading, and continuing to visit my DA page. I'll keep updating it from time to time as I'm able.

Please visit my Patreon and toss any small support my way, if you can! Please please feel free to ask questions, share, and comment! I want to hear your thoughts and ideas!! Thanks so much for sticking around!

We're a small team of animators (KAGE Productions) who have been working in the professional animation, games and comics industries in Vancouver, BC. It would be so amazing to establish a production studio and create jobs for fellow anime & manga artists here in North America with our own flair.

We love anime, but the opportunities to work with hand-drawn 2D animation locally are non-existent, now that everything is outsourced. We want to bring back traditional animation and nurture this art form.

Shadow Magic has been in development since 1998 and was produced as an audio drama in 2003 and published internationally by Arcana Comics in 2006. Let's make this anime happen!

I keep neglecting to update my journal here. I'm more active on Facebook lately- sorry for being so quiet here! I've also joined Instagram not too long ago! Feel free to add me there =D www.instagram.com/kage.product…

In October, I was invited to Los Angeles for the World Animation Celebration by the CEO of Animation Libation Studios, Michael Bonitatis. I have worked with him now on two projects, with a third to commence this month. He also organized the animation festival where I met many Disney animators including Glen Keane (Ariel from the Little Mermaid), Tony Bancroft (Pumbaa from The Lion King), James Lopez (Timon from the Lion King), Eric Goldberg (Genie from Aladdin) and more. I feel so lucky to have been introduced to them personally by Michael and having the continued opportunity to work with him. I got to meet some people from Adult Swim, Nickelodeon, and some others as well.

It's always an inspiration to meet fellow creators and aspiring animators!! As I had a table this time, it was a good opportunity to hang out and chat! My table was right next to Animation Magazine, celebrating it's 30th anniversary in print! Jean Thoren is such an amazing woman and it was a pleasure getting to know her better.

I've completed a couple more client animation projects, which have been revealed to my Patreon supporters <3. One was a commercial featuring an anime girl, and another is the intro for a video game. The biggest one, which I mentioned last time has probably been aired by now, however, I don't want to get into any trouble by naming it without explicit permission lol.

Progress continues at a slow pace on Shadow Magic. Mainly due to my continual search to fill in my work gaps and also my attempts to have more of a social and personal life outside the internet xDD;; So I've been trying to get my butt downtown to industry networking events and the like.

I'm open to taking illustration commissions! Please contact me anytime if you'd like something =D. I really need it right now lol.

Summer Progress

7 min read

Long time no update! I've just completed a client project via a studio in London for a major American network. I can't share the details yet (NDA), however, I will be sure to fill you in when the time comes.

Now I can get back to Shadow Magic storyboarding once again. And also the other show pitches! Progress continues on the Harmonia Saga RPG.

Anime Revolution is coming up next weekend!! I have received some copies of the Onkei graphic novel (super limited quantity!!), which will be for sale at my booth at the Vancouver Convention Center August 4-6, 2017. The Jem plushies (Shadow Magic) will also be available to take home!

The usual assortment of Lolita fashion goods all hand-made, one-of-a-kind, made by me will also be available at my booth. These include collars/chokers, headdresses, cat ears, bunny ears, fox ears, and wrist cuffs.

Hope to see some of you there! =D

Unfortunately I didn't have time to put together a panel or presentation this year, but I'd still love to chat with you if you'll be attending!

On a personal note, due to a massive wildfire, we almost lost our family cabin at Loon Lake. I was booked to enjoy a week there for holiday this week, however, the evacuation order went out just a few days before we were to head up there. We didn't learn until a couple days ago that our cabin is still in one piece, although one side of the lake has been totally burnt to the ground. It was stressful waiting for the fire to pass through and be safe enough for the fire crews to go in and assess the damages. The fire is still active nearby and could easily turn around and expand (winds and weather). So the evacuation order is still in effect. =(

I urge you visit my Patreon and toss any small support my way, if you can! Please please feel free to ask questions, share, and comment! I want to hear your thoughts and ideas!! Thanks so much for sticking around!

Traveller

Back from down-under! I've been to so many places. Mostly East Asia, but also Australia and New Zealand. I've been to Mexico, all over the US & as far east in Canada as Toronto (Montreal, PEI, and Nova Scotia still on the list). I've also been to Japan multiple times, Hong Kong too many times to count, several cities in mainland China, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand. I have yet to visit Europe or Africa. Egypt and Madagascar would be pretty neat =D

Anyhoo, that was interesting and fun. I met Crabbladex2 and QueenieChan ! Go give them some love!

I flew into Brisbane and drove down to the Gold Coast. I stayed in a high rise condo on Broad Beach, which was amazing! Beautiful weather and endless sandy beach and ocean. I was able to do some writing while I was there for 11 days. That's where I met up with Crabbladex2 , the talented and passionate artist behind the Soria novel comic adaption! Next, I drove down to Sydney, taking an overnight stop at Port MacQuarie. The Port town was quaint and everything closed at 3pm lol. Very hard to find a place to eat dinner. We randomly drove past a Thai take out place on the way into town and miraculously they were open til 9pm. Very good, authentic Thai food run by a nice bunch of Thai people ^_^. I noticed there's quite a lot of Thai people in that part of the world.

In Sydney I ended up on a private boat ride around Sydney's many harbors, thanks to a local my mom met at the Gold Coast. She was there playing in a week-long bridge congress (tournament). We were treated to some wonderful hospitality and everyone was super nice =O! I met QueenieChan in downtown Sydney and she showed me some great places to eat. Such a long journey we've both had as artists. We originally 'met' on an old online art forum years ago. I'm really happy to have had the opportunity to personally meet some friends and colleagues I've been in contact with for so many years ^__^. I did a lot of the usual tourist stuff, like visiting the opera house and taking the ferry to Manly. We attempted Scenic World at the Blue Mountains, only to be shrouded in a dense mist and nonstop downpours. We didn't get to see much =(. An excuse to visit again and make another attempt, I suppose xp.

Driving on the opposite side of the road was another adventure =__=. Let's just say the driver... had trouble adjusting... while my mom fell asleep within 5 minutes, I had the task of navigating. We survived. Somehow.

Pretty surreal seeing street signs for kangaroos and koalas instead of deer xD. I also didn't realize how common Eucalyptus trees are =O. I saw some giant spiders, but thankfully they stayed outside. My mom was so excited to hold a Koala at the Currumbin Animal Sanctuary near Brisbane. They are pretty cute... ok, enough about Australia lol.

Back to work!! I'm desperate to make better progress on Shadow Magic and actually start animating it. I urge you to find out what it's all about by visiting my Patreon and please please feel free to ask questions, share, and comment! I want to hear your thoughts and ideas!!
