Night Shift
“Unfortunately, you've got a problem here.” The professor’s assistant, who was leading the experimental lab class, stood at Marco and Yoru’s lab table and examined the data sets on Yoru’s laptop. Every now and then, he picked up a Petri dish or two containing algae cultures and examined them closely. “The data set for the kappa curve is way too scattered—there must have been some contamination.”
“Contamination?” Yoru asked, confused. “We worked really carefully. That can’t be possible.”
“Show me the source materials.”
Marco turned to the white plastic bottles and bulbous glass vessels neatly lined up in three rectangular boxes at the other end of the lab table. He pulled out two of the bottles and a tightly sealed test tube and handed them to the assistant. “Here—this is the nutrient solution for the Kappa experiment, and here is the contrast agent, and the test solvent.”
Frowning, the assistant examined the labels on the bottles
