Civil War Day Gown 2017 by Thy-Darkest-Hour Civil War Day Gown 2017 by Thy-Darkest-Hour
Hi! Long time no see! I've been very busy, I've bought a house this year, so not much time for crafting. Anyways, I did manage to make this wonderful dress before and during all of the chaos that has been going on lately. I've been making dresses for about three years now, and of course this is my favorite one to date. I love love love the little jacket pattern, so much so that this is the second time that I've made it, first seen here on dA in red. As per the skirt, oh my! I've wanted one of these ruffled skirts for so long now. This one is my own pattern and I started out with an old bed sheet that I cut into a circle. I thought it would look really nice if I just used the biased edge of the fabric (super cheap $2 broadcloth), so that's 11, count em, 11 yards of broadcloth. Love it! Thank you youtube for showing me how to put a zipper in a ruffled skirt. (And thank you jacket for covering it up even though it looks pretty darn good surprisingly). Oh the bonnet lol, yeah, 5% sewing, 70% hot glue, and the rest is a hope and a prayer, and a $2 flea market beach hat, ha! Two weeks later its pretty heavy but never tried to fall off and looks pretty good all things considered. I won't deny it, I love having people ask to take my picture, it absolutely makes my day! I love dressing up and can't wait until next year, my guy, Adam, has consented to letting me make him a costume, I'm thinking Rhett Butler, I've never dressed a 6'2" giant before, I'm not even 5 feet tall! I've all ready got my idea for next year for me too!

Hi! I was wondering if I could draw that outfit in an anime style? You're free to look at my work if you please to!

Amazingly done! Those are some expert skills at making your own patterns, creating masterpieces from other once, and a ton of creativity. I adore how the back of the jacket trails further down the skirt than the front. It adds a very classy touch and reminds me of those old photos of women from the era since the best shots usually seem to come from the side or some sort of angle rather than straight on from the front.

Thank you! Far far from expert, there are some truly amazing artists here showcasing their work, I manage though! The jacket is my favorite commercial pattern I've ever made, I'm all ready planning a steampunk rendition of it modeled after something I saw online. When I read your comment about the side photos it gave me the idea to eventually turn one of these into a vintage style portrait, thanks!

Yes!! A steampunk rendition sounds amazing! I have an affinity for the steampunk style. The vintage style portrait sounds amazing as well and I would very much love to see how it turns out. I used to make costumes ones in a while years ago for different events and cabaret performing which I did for 10 years... I had a pattern for an intricate civil war gown but never got around to trying it. Then again, my skills were pretty novice and I would have spent a ton on fabric just to have it turn out like a mess. ;)
Through some of my designs, I love using this style of clothing for a more artistic element rather than the usual posed models. I've used a handful of yours as well as wings from your gorgeous collection. (I tagged and commented on each when I did them.) You do amazing work... Keep it up!
