What kind of long-pile fabrics do you use?

I've never worked with long-pile fabrics before so I thought I'd ask here in case someone who sees this has. I'd like to make something that would have a minky body with an identically-coloured but much more shaggy tail. What would you folks recommend shopping for in this case?

Thanks for any help!

I have some but haven't used any of them other than velvet. Velvet tends to be very slippery and requires even more pins than some slinky synthetics and silks. I've been warned that long pile furs have to be brushed away from the seam before sewing or you'll be forced to sit there with a needle and pick them out afterwords... which is super tedious.

Yeah I'd expect the problems I hit with minky to exacerbate with faux fur :)

I've never used long pile fabric, but I plan to try 1 inch/25 mm pile minky eventually.

I didn't realize minky came with such long piles, will have to look them up. thanks!

I didn't either until I saw it on fabric.com's suggestion list. :D

I heard good things about faux fur as well, :iconseetha: uses that stuff as far as I know. Maybe try and ask her about it. :)

Faux fur? Is that what you mean?

Yeah basically faux fur. Am also wondering if people went for specific selections to match colours to their minky, if they ever even attempt that :)
