The Voice of Amela

Next up is the voice actress I’ve chosen for Amela—a character with a deeply complex past and an uncertain yet hopeful future. I knew I needed someone who could embody that emotional depth: a character who’s lost nearly everything, only to discover something more meaningful down the road. That’s why Bella Ramsey immediately came to mind.

Bella has portrayed a wide range of characters, but the ones that truly stood out to me were their performances as Hilda in Hilda and the Mountain King, Molly in Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, and of course, Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. However, the role that inspired this casting the most is Ellie Williams in The Last of Us. Bella’s portrayal of Ellie is nothing short of phenomenal—raw, resilient, and full of heart.

Much like Ellie, Amela comes from a place of deep emotional isolation. Though her mother, Rani, is still alive, Amela is rejected by her because she bears traits inherited from her father, Vihar—a lion whose dark past casts a long shadow. Emotionally, Amela may as well be an orphan. That same sense of abandonment defines Ellie’s early life in The Last of Us, where she’s raised in a harsh, post-apocalyptic world, trained in survival, and burdened by trauma from a young age.

Both Ellie and Amela carry the weight of loss, rejection, and identity struggles. And yet, despite the pain, both characters push forward, always searching for meaning, connection, and a better future. That emotional complexity is something Bella Ramsey brings to life so powerfully—making them, in my eyes, the perfect voice for Amela.
