The Lion Guard: Wings of Rescue

[Scene 1 – PRIDE LANDS – DAY – NEAR BAOBAB TREE]

(Birdsong chirps in the distance. The savannah is peaceful. Zoom in on a tall tree not far from Pride Rock. A young lion cub with pale fur and green eyes—Shujaa—climbs awkwardly up the lower branches, tail flicking with determination.)

SHUJAA
(grinning)
C’mon, Shujaa… Just a little higher… Mom says I’m too little to climb trees, but I bet Dad did it when he was my age!

(He paws and hoists himself onto a thinner branch that creaks softly beneath him. He peers down—gulp—then smiles nervously.)

SHUJAA
Whoa… Okay, don’t look down. Just… look cool. Like Beshte said… “You got this, little guy.”

(Suddenly: CRACK! The branch snaps under his weight. Shujaa lets out a terrified yowl as he tumbles down through the branches.)

SHUJAA
AHHHHHHH!

[Scene 2 – SKY ABOVE THE SAVANNAH]

(Two martial eagles soar high. One is Anga, sleek and precise, her feathers patterned in black, gray, purple, and white. The other, Mgomo, is dark brown with green eyes and lighter underside. They’re gliding side by side.)

MGOMO
(grinning)
So... we spot anything interesting today, sis? Or is it just another sky patrol with silence and stares?

ANGA
(slight smile)
You talk too much, Mgomo.

MGOMO
You think too much.

(Suddenly, Anga’s head whips downward. Her sharp eyes narrow. Mgomo notices, too—his gaze turns golden-amber briefly.)

MGOMO
(waiting a beat)
Wait… is that—?

ANGA
Shujaa! He’s falling!

MGOMO
I see him! He’s heading straight for the river!

(Mgomo instantly tucks his wings and dives, slicing through the air like a missile. Anga follows close behind.)

[Scene 3 – FALLING SCENE – CONTINUOUS]

(Shujaa’s tiny paws flail as he plummets toward the fast-moving river. The cub shuts his eyes tightly. Just before impact, a blur of feathers intercepts him—Mgomo snatches him mid-air with strong talons, careful not to hurt him.)

SHUJAA
(panicked gasp)
W-Whoa!

MGOMO
(soothing, mid-flight)
Easy there, kiddo—I got you. You're safe now.

(He adjusts to cradle the cub more comfortably on his back. Anga joins from above, gliding closer.)

ANGA
(swooping alongside)
Nice catch, Mgomo!

MGOMO
(grinning)
Well, someone had to keep an eye out while you were zoning out up there.

ANGA
(smirking)
I was scouting. You got lucky.

SHUJAA
(still wide-eyed)
I-I was just trying to see the top of the tree... I didn’t think it’d break...

MGOMO
(chuckling)
Most trees don’t like cubs climbing ‘em. But hey, now you’ve flown higher than any cub your age!

(Shujaa glances around, wide-eyed as Mgomo climbs back into the sky.)

SHUJAA
(stammering)
I’m… flying?

ANGA
(grinning gently)
You’re riding an eagle. Not the same thing. But it’s pretty close.

[Scene 4 – MID-AIR ABOVE PRIDE ROCK]

(Mgomo glides with ease now, Shujaa gripping his feathers. Anga flanks him with a calm watchful eye.)

ANGA
That was quick thinking, Mgomo.

MGOMO
You say that like it’s not what anyone would’ve done.

ANGA
Not everyone reacts fast enough to save a cub mid-fall.

MGOMO
(sincerely)
I didn’t think. I just saw him falling and... acted. It's what you do for someone in danger. Guard or no Guard.

ANGA
(pauses, then nods)
Sometimes I wish you were part of the Lion Guard.

MGOMO
(chuckling)
You know that life’s not for me. You patrol. You train. You take orders from Kion.

ANGA
(teasing)
He’s not so bad.

MGOMO
No, he's great. But I fly where I’m needed. No roar required.

ANGA
(firmly)
Maybe not now. But someday, you’ll find your calling, Mgomo. Whether you want it or not.

MGOMO
(soft smirk)
Well, if it ever involves saving more falling cubs, I’ll be ready.

[Scene 5 – PRIDE ROCK – LATER]

(Kion and Tiifu wait near the base of Pride Rock, pacing anxiously. Bunga, Fuli, and Beshte are nearby. Suddenly, the shadow of two martial eagles sweeps over them. Mgomo and Anga descend, Mgomo landing softly and letting Shujaa hop off.)

TIIFU
(gasping)
Shujaa!

KION
(rushing forward)
What happened?! Are you alright?

(Shujaa runs to them, nestling into Tiifu’s front legs.)

SHUJAA
I-I tried to climb the tree… I fell... but I got rescued by eagles!

BUNGA
(eagerly)
You got to fly?! Lucky!

Fuli
(half-smirking)
Not exactly lucky. Sounds more like a close call.

KION
(turning to Mgomo and Anga)
Thank you. Both of you. I owe you for this.

MGOMO
(grinning modestly)
Don’t worry about it, Kion. I’m just glad I was in the right place at the right time.

ANGA
(as if on cue)
Told you he’d make a good Guard.

MGOMO
(playfully groaning)
Here we go again...

TIIFU
(smiling warmly)
Still… you saved our son. That makes you family, Mgomo.

MGOMO
(sincerely)
Then I’m honored.

[Scene 6 – SUNSET – PRIDE LANDS OVERLOOK]

(Later that evening, Mgomo stands alone on a high ledge overlooking the savannah. Anga joins him, wings tucked.)

ANGA
(sitting beside him)
Still thinking about what I said?

MGOMO
Yeah… maybe. Just wondering if there’s a place where I can help without needing a title or badge.

ANGA
(softly)
Sometimes the sky shows you where you’re needed. You just have to be watching.

(They sit in silence a moment. The stars begin to show. A lion cub’s giggle echoes faintly in the distance.)

MGOMO
(smiling)
Well… guess I’ll keep watching.
