Mgomo's First Rescue

The first time Mgomo rescued someone was in the days before before Chiku’s Junior Lion Guard formed. Mgomo was out flying with one of his good buddies, Taa the marsh harrier hawk. As Mgomo and Taa where enjoying an afternoon flight over the Pride Lands. Mgomo and Taa where comparing which of their species was the fastest in the sky. Sure they may have a great friendship but these two birds of prey have an extraordinary competitive rivalry with each other as well. As the two friends raced above the gouge they heard mews of distress coming from below making the two birds stop mid flight.

Mgomo: “Did you hear that?”

Taa: “Yeah… Sounded like a lion cub.”

Mgomo: “Great Kings! I hope it isn’t one of the queen’s two cubs!”

Taa: “Well what are we waiting for?! Are we going to find them or what?”

Mgomo nodded to his friend and the two friends began to descend downward to get a better look. When they flew lower in that’s when Mgomo spotted the young lion. It was Mukasa! He was barely hanging on by his little claws from a broken dead branch.

Mgomo: “It’s the prince! Hold on little king I’m coming!”

Mgomo did a sudden dive in the air folding in his wings as Mukasa looked toward the sky seeing his rescuer.

Mogmo: “It’s alright your majesty! Drop and I’ll catch you!”

Mgomo was almost underneath Mukasa and even though the cub may be too young to understand he knew he was about to be saved and with that Mukasa let go and fell a short distance before he found himself on something soft. As Mgomo looked over his shoulder smiling at the young prince before making his way back up to Taa who had witnessed the entire thing.

Taa: “Fancy flying there, pal!” He looks over at the lion cub and gives Mukasa a wink.

Mgomo: “Thanks but I only did what any other decent animal would have done.”

Taa: “No one could have done what you just did. I mean that, Mgomo. Now how about we getting this little guy back home to his Ma! I’m sure she’s going crazy looking for him.”

Mgomo: “Well let’s head to Pride Rock and then we’ll see who’s the fastest species in the entire savanna!”

Taa: “Oh you’re so on!”
