A New Generation is Born

Roars of pain could be heard coming from inside Pride Rock's royal den where the king and queen and their family and the rest of the Pride slept. Chiku was laying on her side her breathing labored as roared yet again as a contraction went through her body. Chiku's mother, Kiara her cousin, Uzani and Zuri all surrounded her for support as her brothers, Mukasa and Kibo. her father, Kovu and her Uncle Kion and her Aunts Vitani and Tiifu all waited outside for the exciting news as Makini was delivering the the new member of the royal family.

Kiara: "That's it, Chiku. You're doing very well, my darling." Kiara rubbed her paw in a soothing motion back and forth slowly across her daughter's bulging belly."

Zuri: "The cub is almost here. Well done, Chiku keep going!"

Uzani: "How much longer, Makini?"

Makini: "She's only dilated the cub half way. You three should concentrate on making Chiku as comfortable as possible."

Uzani: "Alright." Uzani licked Chiku's forehead to keep her cousin as calm and relaxed as possible through this whole obviously painful ordeal. Uzani herself wasn't looking forward to giving birth someday if it caused her cousin this much pain. "Shh. Chiku, try to relax."

Chiku: "Easy for you to say, Uzani!" She growled. "You're not feeling what I'm feeling right now. ARGH!"

Another contraction hit her but then there was a different kind of pain. It hurt Chiku more than any other type of pain that she had from wounds that came and went over the course of the many seasons of her lifetime. Makini's eye's widened as she held the newborn cub in her arms. It mewled and squeaked for it's mother.

Kiara: "My first grand cub! Congratulations my angel you're a mother now." Kiara nuzzled her niece and then her daughter as Makini put the cub in between Chiku's paws.

As Chiku sat up slowly she looked at her newborn son and started to lick him to get warm. Zuri and Makini went to get the rest of the family seconds later everyone else entered Pride Rock's den. King Mukasa was the first to enter and he raced up to see his new little nephew down in between his sister's paws.

Mukasa: "Wow look at him go to get his milk!"

Kibo: "He's a strong one already that's for sure. I can't wait to spoil the little guy when he gets older."

Chiku: "Not on your lives!" She and her brothers laughed as the little lion was already suckling.

Kovu: "So my flower, have you and your mate picked out a name?" As Kovu nuzzled his daughter.

Chiku wished her wife could be here to witness this precious moment but she was on a quest with Shujaa as a messenger to a neighboring pride to discuss boarder arrangements. They would both be back soon but in the meantime she had the love of her family and that was more than enough.

Chiku: "We have and we have decided that his name shall be Upepo."

Kiara: "Upepo... That's a wonderful name."

Kion: "A wonderful name for a new family member."

Tiifu: "Welcome to the family, Upepo!"

Chiku: "Yes... Welcome to the family, Upepo. My brave and wonderful son."
