A Heart to Heart Moment Between Sisters

The following night after the untimely deaths of King Sahasi and Queen Ananda Princess Rani sat outside all alone and long after the rest of her surviving family went inside the den. A great sadness was definitely surrounding the Tree of Life right now with the recent deaths of the short lived rulers. But for Rani as she was feeling a great sense of loss for both of her beloved parents she was also feeling a sense of betrayal too. She and Vihar where supposed to bring their kingdoms to peace once they came of age. Rani never wanted to believe her father's suspicions where out of concern for his daughter's safety but as she finally collapsed to the ground and cried she heard a set of paw steps from inside the den getting up and rushing outside. She found the courage to collect herself and stand again but still carried a look of gloom in her sad eyes as she turned to see who emerged. Finding it was her sister, Amani she carried a look of concern in her one good amber eye along with her blind one which she could no longer see out of. Rani turned back to her train of thought as Amani approached coming to sit opposite of Rani.

Amani: “By the look on your face I probably don’t need to ask what’s troubling you…”

Rani only sighs and looks at her sister.

Rani: “It’s more then you think. I’m not just grieving for Mom and Dad, Amani but… I’m just trying to grapple at “why”… Why did Vihar betray me the way he did?”

Amani: “Well… Not to be a rabid hyena, Rani but we did try and warn you… Dad… Uncle Surak… ME. We tried to tell you right from the start Vihar was bad news. So I’m sorry to say my dearest sister but… You should’ve listened especially when he was getting physical with you.”

Rani: “No, Amani… You’re right. I was wrong I see that now. My heart was just to blind with love for Vihar too see how right you all where. I just wanted to believe Vihar was a good, kind, and gentle lion who would love me unconditionally. I was so stubborn and now… Because of my own stupidity our parents are dead at the paws of Vihar’s father!”

Amani: "Hey! I don’t want you talking like that about yourself. He and his pride had some of us fooled including Nirmala and Grandmother. Mom had her suspicions too but she was eventually ready to accept the Winter Pride on good graces."

Rani: "Well from this time forward I'm going to be leery around any new stranger that enters our kingdom especially the ones who do truly have a good heart and stay true to it. Any strangers will have to work hard to earn my trust. I'm going to be very careful of who I allow in especially into my heart. I don't want to lose anymore of our family and that includes you or our baby brother."

Amani: "You have every right to feel the way you do, Rani and betrayal does that to animals. You're right Baliyo is our primary concern right now but Grandmother Janna will also help with raising him as well as us. We all still have so much to learn too about this wide world we live in."

Rani: "We do have a lot to learn especially since I'm next in line to be come queen."

Amani: "You're also still very young and Grandmother doesn't expect you to take on such a big responsibility just yet. She's coming out of retirement to rule as queen again and when you're ready she'll know that she's leaving her kingdom in good paws."

Rani let her sister's words sink in. How did she end up with such a smart lioness as her sister? Whatever the great rulers of the past decided she was very lucky to call Amani her sister.

Rani: "Come on let's at least TRY and get some sleep we're saying goodbye to our parents tomorrow before we return their bodies to the earth."

Amani: "I know... I'll certainly miss them."   

Rani: "I know but we'll always have each other no matter what happens going forward."

Amani: "And Baliyo will have both of us always."

Amani and Rani turned back to the tree's ancient den small smiles but sorrow in both their hearts they each leaned their head against the other as they walked back inside for some well earned rest.


Amani is not my character she rightfully belongs to I have her permission though to use Amani in my stories when I feel the need to though.
