[BT] Adelaide by ThunderGodXarbala [BT] Adelaide by ThunderGodXarbala
From Historical: Liberation of Terra vol. 2. You can buy the pdf here, or maybe here!

My first piece in an official BT book, depicting one of the less successful assaults on Amaris' forces during the SLDF's Australasian Campaign. Put another way, it's the Battle of Dunkirk but with `Mechs. I may have taken a few liberties with the design of the Lancelot though I tried to be pretty faithful with the designs of the Spector and Mercury. Also in the background are a muddy and indistinct Dervish, Phoenix (not Hawk), and a Cicada.

Also one of *Mecha-Master's LAMs is getting its legs blown off in the background. CGL's idea, not mine!

Sorry if it's a bit low on detail and texture. Did a bit of studying on some of =Shimmering-Sword's stuff for how he puts together his explosions and energy weapon impacts, though it's, er, rough going. It's black and white because, well, that's how these books are. You'll note that most BT artists wouldn't put a little black and white piece up on their gallery but, hey, not like I have much here anyway.

I'm an amateur cartoonist in an illustrator's world, that I am.

(The SLDF `Mechs kind of remind me of Domo-kun.)

I'm reworking the Battletech CCG cards for a free Tabletop Simulator mod. Would it be ok to use some of your Battletech images for some of the card art? I am making no money from it. It's a labor of love :) (Smile)

Always good to see some of the classic Star League-Mechs...especially if they haven't shown much yet at all like the Spector.

Love the Lancelot! I've been wishing for a redesign of the 'Ol Toothpick Arm!

Thanks! Still trying to keep it twiggy though, it's in the spirit of the thing.

Saw this in the PDF. Tough work on short notice right? :D
I was offered this as a 2nd piece but even getting out a single painting for them in time was a stretch so I turned it down. Good to see you did your best, my main crit would be to have worked on the smoke more. The rest looks good for print size, and as usual you did great on the mechs. Did they give you any flack about modernizing the mechs? Perk of the short deadline is they don't have time to conform you :)
Reminds me I need to post my painting here too.

Yeah, this one caught me with my pants down!

I'm pretty sure I was the last resort to get something done in time, but by Jove I was gonna do it. You're absolutely right that the smoke's blocky and completely lacking in texture, which goes to show that I need to figure out how to get custom brushes to work in my favor.

They were pretty lenient about the redesigning! It was indeed probably the deadline thing, but I also tried to stick pretty close to the originals. Less so with the Lancelot, but that was for the better I think. I definitely wouldn't get away with this again, but for a debut I wanted to show off a bit. Er, with what skills I could put to use given the time available, anyway. :phew:

They need to get you doing TRO lineart, that's where your strong. You'll over take the existing BnW painters too if you keep improving. Did you get an email about the next project? (dat top secret stuff).
Well if this is your first official piece (I thought you had done some already) it's a good thing I turned this one down, good to see you break in. I had 2 weeks to do mine, but their slow way of communicating (taking weekends off lolz) meant I did most of the work in the last days, even went past due to make mine look good. I think they sent it for final checking and sale the day after I sent mine in.

Oh yes, I've sent my reply to the Summons Confidentiale and eagerly await my next assignments. (Please let there be a Thug in the mix. Please oh please!)

The weekend thing did meant I had to take a lot more initiative than I'd expected to and I'm not surprised you took some extra time to give yours that extra bit of shine. I'll be honest and say I didn't think I had the clout to, being the new guy and all, so I treated my deadline as a hard stop. Bit of a shame, this one obviously could use a bit more polish all around (not much armor texture either, I regret.) But it's still good enough for an 8x5 plate and I'm glad I managed in time.

From a sneak peek on your piece, before you've actually uploaded it: Love those Starslayers, and is that Amaris `Mech a Cestus? If so, that might well be the best looking Cestus in the history of BT art. It's always awesome to see funky Star League-era designs get a makeover, even a slight one.

As a non-artist, my hat is off to both of you for illustrating what I love!  Also, wish I could doodle better, but haven't the time to devote!  Keep it you you two (et al) for it's people like you who keep the young minds of today stoked with the fires of imagination!
