THRIVE is an open source game which aims to simulate the entire universe - your way. From the lowly tide pools of your home planet, you will evolve a creature to triumph against your adversaries, gain sentience and blast off to explore distant worlds.The eventual game will include a wide variety of features, such as population dynamics; a procedural evolution system which automatically evolves AI creatures and allows you to directly edit your own organism, designing not only their look but behaviour and internal organ structures as well; a sandbox mode in which you can edit absolutely everything, unlocked after the space stage; a tech editor to design and test your own tech objects; advanced systems for economics implementing a compound resource tool; and much, much more.

I am currently working on a species that I hope can be in the game. I think it will be done next week or somewhere near that. Hope you will be able to use it. And best of luck with the game, I can't wait for it to come out. ^^

Just a question...

In the later stages, will I be able to create one single character of a species like a capitan, president, pirat or something like that? And will there be the possibilities to create a cyborg or a cyborg species? Will there be the ability to create differences between different ages and genders for your life forms? Will there be the ability to download music to the game so you can change some in-game music so it can fit your taste better? Can you change what metal your lifeform's blood will be based on, like cupper, iron, zink? Will there be the ability to stay creature while other species go civilization? Can you be a plauge? Can you get sick in-game? Will wounds appear on the creature's texture? Will you be able to edit your creature while in later stages like civilization? Will there be diving? Can you change your diet while in the later stages? Will you be able to create and customize planets as you want? Will you be able to change the planetary settings? Will there be climats, weather and an actual world-map with oceans and continents with different enivorements? Will there be caverns?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a curious little pain... xD

1. the player will be able to use an unit as its own, but no, you wont impersonate a character in the world like in SPORE: GA...

2. cyborg tech and robots will be avaliable as part of the tech editor (dont remember at how much depth)

3. ages and genders i guess are included in the parameters of the organism editor along with what you do during evolution

4. yeah i think you will be able to put music in the game

5. blood and other stuff are specifications of the organism editor so yeah. 

6. theres no limit in how much time you want to stay in each stage nor the game should force you to advance into the next one

7. wounds no, i think that stuff wont be in the game, not at least at release. its mostly cosmetic and doesnt add to the gameplay.

8. creature textures will be part of the organism design so i guess you will be able to define colors

9. swimming and diving will be avaliable since are part of actuatic gameplay, amphibian creatures would be possible and transitions to water. its only limited to the evolution and the tech avaliable

10. no you wont be able to edit your creature in civ stages, at the time the creatures have reached a more actual timeline, this means that evolution isnt noticed at the time. basically its evo locked. you can however edit other creatures once you get god tools. maybe your own after that

11. diet is defined by the creature's evolutions so i dont think you will be able to do that at later stages

12. god tools == transform the universe around you, planets, star systems, other organisms. all that

13. planets are defined ad the start of the game, so you can make a planet with settings you want, after that only good tools can modify planetary bodies in game

14. about caverns, i dont remember much discussion about it in the forum, so i cannot answer that, it would add to organism gameplay since players could live in planets where the surface is not suited for life. or something like that.

about #1. the player will be able to control its creatures RTS way, so you'll be able to control several or 1 unit at a time. but no, you wont be able to play as a character in the universe.

You might also want to include some decision making options as well throughout the game. To allow players to go along different evolutionary and technological paths. This will allow players to decide if they want to go from the oceans to land, or remain in the oceans to evolve into intelligent beings. This type of basis can help with putting your species on a path towards flight, aquatic, semi-aquatic, land based, or something in between. 

I mean who says you want flying or underwater cities? The decisions you make throughout the game in the creature stage should determine what technology you can create as well based on the needs and wants of the emerging culture. 

Have you ever thought of clothing skins? In Spore they gave u only pieces of armor so at the most it only looked partially clothed. Much like the coloring in Spore it would only be cosmetic but it would make the creature more like an intelligent being then animal. You can still have armor pieces that give attributes, but it should add on in the style of the clothing skin. The skin and the pieces should have edit interfaces to make it more unique.

On the continued concept of skins, in spore coverings like feathers, fur, skin, scales, shells, and armor plating weren't really given much thought and were mostly cosmetic. And those that weren't didn't really cover the body instead sticking out, you needed ludicrous amounts of DNA points to cover them. They should be given their own attributes during the creatures Aware Stage. Because creatures grew these coverings for a reason and shouldn't be discounted. In fact some creatures had combinations of these coverings allowing more versatility during different times of the day and in different habitats.

Also, about different niches does that include when species are active during the day? Can you go nocturnal until your strong enough to change your niche and how does the environmental factors contribute to that?

Yo! I discovered Thrive while looking for info on a possible Spore 2.
Now from reading the wiki page, this game includes features that were left out of Spore. Some are good, and some are kind of, in my opinion bad. I find it a little weird for an entire species to just turn to energy and disperse. 
I propose a sort of auto mode that allows you to take a step back from your space-age civilization and use your editor create and edit your universe as well as allow you to track your civilization and their activities with minimal interaction. 

There was a reason they brought in the Adventure update in Spore, Space-Age is a sandbox, but it gets boring without some inclination of structure and order. It also allows us to go back to just one character and use it to interact on a more personal level. So why not take it a step further? If we're going to build buildings we might as well see whats inside of them. Have your character get up close and personal with other civilizations and planets. Enter another's ship and get the lowdown of the place, walk into the lobby of an embassy, and get into Indiana Jones moments as you explorer primitive planets.

Also can it include some sort of multiplier?  Spore was fun, but there really wasn't player to player interaction. It would be cool if you could say team up as the same or different species on a planet and work together towards space age. Or get to be more direct in inter-species game relations.

You will also need some form of point system and currency that allows players to get from stage to stage much like spore, however it could be more varied then just sporebucks and spice.
