It had never been a strange world. Not entirely, at least. I had woken up some time ago -- though how long I cannot say -- in the ruins of an old building. It wasn't long before I had walked about and found that everything was desolate. I spent many sunrises and sunsets wandering across the remains of roads, seeing only the rubble and hollowed shells of places that had once been. It was the only world I had ever known. Then, unexpectedly as I went along my travels, I saw someone in the distance. I called out to them, hoping they would respond, yet they fled faster than I could run to catch them. I was distraught, but, even so, for the first time I knew I wasn't alone. There was a lake nearby, one I had visited on numerous occasions for its peaceful atmosphere. This time, I looked down into the water and wondered: What might this person look like? Would they have silver skin like me? Red, blue, yellow, or green eyes? Why did they run? Would I ever find them again?
