Description

Original: Double Rainboom by :iconunderpable:

I've been obsessed with the original of this image for quite some time. Returning to it on an almost daily basis to admire it. There is something about about it that makes me infinitely happy, and reminds me of my dreams.
Music that goes well with the image: www.youtube.com/watch?v=geTjph…

This is my first ever 3D conversion using the software Blender. I knew the software was powerful as I already did a lot of stuff with it, but I had no idea I could do 3D conversions as well. Due to the complexity and dedication I took for this, it took a total of 9 hours to complete (this includes the exporting of all formats).

Considering there was a lot I could do with the image, I've made four different depths, depending on what you want. Depth level 1 is the only one that "pops out" of your screen. The other depths don't, but give a more grand and massive feeling to the image.

I am providing downloads for MANY different formats, depending on your device and viewing preference. Please check descriptions for each if you are not familiar with these formats.

Don't Have Any 3D Hardware?

Wiggle (This 3D can be viewed without any equipment, as it shows both left and right images in a sequence. Flash is required.)
Animated: [SWF]

Crosseye (This 3D can be viewed without any equipment and is done by crossing your eyes out. Please visit this link for a tutorial on how to do it: www.angelfire.com/ca/erker/fre… )

Standard Dual Picture Formats

Side-by-Side (A fairly standard format with left and right pictures shown side-by-side. Can be used with most 3D software, but most 3D TVs won't be able to display these.)

Depth 2: [PNG]
Depth 3: [PNG]
Depth 4: [PNG]

Side-by-Side TV (Similar to Side-by-Side, but with both left and right pictures' sizes changed so that each is 1920x1080, which is standard 1080p resolution. Many 3D TVs will be able to show these properly, but some won't. If your 3D TV is unable to show the PNG versions, try JPG.)

Half Side-by-Side TV (Similar to Side-by-Side, but both pictures have been squished to 960x1080 so they both fit in one frame of 1920x1080. All 3D TVs should be able to display these. If your 3D TV is unable to show the PNG versions, try JPG.)

Above-Below (A fairly standard format with left and right pictures shown above and below. Can be used with most 3D software, but most 3D TVs won't be able to display these.)

Depth 3: [PNG]
Depth 4: [PNG]

Above-Below TV (Similar to Above-Below, but with both left and right pictures' sizes changed so that each is 1920x1080, which is standard 1080p resolution. Many 3D TVs will be able to show these properly, but some won't. If your 3D TV is unable to show the PNG versions, try JPG.)

Half Above-Below TV (Similar to Above-Below, but both pictures have been squished to 1920x540 so they both fit in one frame of 1920x1080. All 3D TVs should be able to display these. If your 3D TV is unable to show the PNG versions, try JPG.)

Other Formats

Anaglyph (This method requires you to have cheap red-cyan 3D glasses. You can sometimes receive these in some magazines.)

Depth 2: [PNG]
Depth 3: [PNG]
Depth 4: [PNG]

Interlaced (New passive 3D TVs (they use glasses like in cinema and don't have batteries in them) usually use this method. To properly view this picture, it has to be put on fullscreen on a passive  1080p 3D TV or monitor so that the pixels correctly align.

MPO (Many different 3D TVs, 3D software and even 3D smartphones (like HTC EVO 3D) can display the 3D picture in this format.)

JPS (Same like MPO, many different 3D TVs, 3D software and even 3D smartphones (like HTC EVO 3D) can display the 3D picture in this format.)

How was this made?
The whole process was done in the software Blender. To achieve the 3D effect, the whole scene was recreated using different meshes and shapes to mimic what is on the scene, using mostly my interpretation of how I saw it, and then the image was projected on to them from a center camera, not used for rendering the final image. The process wasn't very complex, but with tons of vertexes, it gets a bit harder on the system. The scene is composed out of multiple parts:
- The background, which is mostly stars,
- The sonic rainboom mesh
- The starburst mesh,
- A 2D plane for Twilight Sparkle
- And a 2D plane for Rainbow Dash.

I have linked some of the screenshots of how it looks like inside Blender below:

I hope you enjoy! If you have questions about 3D or about the picture, be sure to post a comment! :)

Sorry, but I think the download links are broken. None of them works. Me and my friemd both tried them, with multiple browsers and even vpn, but nothing works. It only shows the "forbidden" page. Could you please fix them?
