this guy traded his natural familiar with this little black one, which gives him supernatural abilities and near indestructibility but is also able to fight for control over his body and negatively influence his emotions and such. luckily, he's discovered that as long as he's intoxicated in some way, so is it. he keeps himself in a constant state of intoxication to prevent it from doing any harm. he has one of his friends working on finding some better method to keep it under control.
