Fangs

a pretty long time ago i started writing a story, i didn't have any plan or any real ideas, i just wrote what popped into my head. this is one of the characters from that story.

in this world, magic was gifted to the people long, long ago. the only way to learn magic of any kind is to have it gifted to you from someone who already has it. this process is different for each type of magic, none are particularly pleasant, but by far the absolute worst to endure is healing. being gifted healing magic causes a horrible, burning pain under your skin, it's so unbearably painful that it usually takes /weeks/ to finish, despite the transfer usually only technically lasting about two hours. it has to be done in short sessions, with long periods of recovery in between so it doesn't kill the subject. by the time the process is over, the identity and personality of the subject is invariably erased.

since healing magic is so useful and so important, this is kept a secret. anyone who wants to become a healer must seek out one of several little sanctuaries, completely alone, and request to learn. they're then taken in, and any records of their existence are destroyed. healers don't belong to any one nation or person or race, the laws don't apply to them, they're a citizen of nowhere and everywhere all at once. no matter who or where you are, one of the worst things you can do is harm a healer.

Fangs here is a student healer, she's gotten to the point where she doesn't remember anything about her past or even her name. she's very uncomfortable with the loss of identity, so she's been coming up with nicknames for everyone and scratching notes into the wall and floor under her bed. she's the oldest of the students in her class, and uses that position to take charge of the group most of the time. she does her best to take care of the younger students, especially Goldie. she's the one who convinced the others to come up with an escape plan.
