A Dance of Blades

Ylwenn stood facing her lover from a distance of two meters.  The handsome elf in front of her flicked his blond hair out of his eyes with a casual toss of his head.  He gazed across the space between them with a slight grin on his lips.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

"You're sure about this?" Ylwenn asked him.  "It seems a bit dangerous."

"Of course it is," Zevran replied.  "It's about skill as much as about trust.  You do trust me don't you Warden?"

"Seriously?" she replied skeptically, raising one eyebrow.

"Oh, you wound me so," Zev said with a smirk.  "Let us begin!"

With that declaration he began to spin.  Ylwenn matched his movements and soon the two of them were twirling in place, their arms moving in graceful spirals, their legs pumping in slight leaps and stunning pirouettes.

"Now!" Zevran shouted, and immediately the pair drew their swords, one in either hand.

As the dance continued Zevran suddenly darted forward a step and lashed out with his blade.  The sword's tip found a seem on Ylwenn's shirt and sliced through it, leaving the sleeve of her shir to fall to the ground.  Zevran was back in position before the sleeve had hit the hard dirt of their camp site.  She glared at him but continued to spin.  Laughing he lunged forward again and slashed her shirt open revealing her cleavage.

"Hey!" she shouted, and stepped forward to slash open his tunic.

"Wonderful!" he laughed.  "Keep going."

The dance went back and forth with blades flashing, bodies twirling, clothes falling to the ground until at last the two danced naked as the day they were born.

"You are truly skilled at this," Zevran said.  "Are you sure this is not your first time?"

"Of course it is," Yllwen replied.  "But now what do we do.  We're out of clothes."

"I know.  That's the whole point."  With that he stopped dancing and tossed his swords to the ground.  Yllwen stopped dancing, surprised.

"So now what, we stand around naked?" Yllwen asked, beginning to become angry with the cocky elf.

"Not exactly," he said with a grin as he slid up to her and wrapped his arm around her waist.

She grinned.  "I thought this was a Dalish ritual of trust and skill."

"I lied," he said smiling.  "It was an excuse to get you out of your clothes."

"You could have asked," she said huskily, melting into his arms.

"It was more fun this way," he replied, looking into her large brown eyes.

"The fun is just starting," she said with a giggle, and dragged him off to her tent.

The End

A short story for SoniaCarreras about her warden Ylwenn. I love Sonia's art and Ylwenn's adventures amuse and inspire me. I inspired her with my mention of a sword dance, and she drew a picture that inspired me to write this. Hope you like it Sonia.
