Firstly, huge thanks for the time you took to review my shot.
I totally agree with you, it should have more DOF. I shot at night and it was a handheld, so i was trying to make it all work. In retrospect, i should have used a tripod.
Firstly, thanks for taking the time! I really do appreciate it.
I think maybe an explanation of why these images link with Tienanmen Square. I'm currently living 10 minutes cab ride form the square. I was going to go there after work but i had to stay in the office, plus apparently the police had the area in lock down. So i drew this image instead.
There's no mention here of it at all, the anniversary passes in silence. Apparently the Chinese don't really talk about it amongst themselves much. 1989 is the year that never happened.
Which takes me to the image. the message is more subtle and quiet... you're not really supposed to 'get it' - like the whole event, it's hidden, not obvious at all. It's from the perspective of being in China rather than outside it.
The woman is reflective and internal looking heavenward. But although the thoughts are inside and unspoken, from her mind springs hope. Quietly the butterfly, a symbol of change, lies almost hidden behind. As you mention, there's 'freeness' which comes from the amount of open space i used at the top of the image...
The look and feel is somewhat a mix of 'fashionable' now and also throwing in some 80's style - trying to get a hybrid thing going.
