Back in september, a discussion about the differences between Paintings and Drawings took place. The conclusion of said discussion was in a nutshell; that the differences between the two are not really that discernable which lead to confusion from the community and that was evident for you could see a mix of both in both sub-galleries. So now we're happy to announce that both sub-categories got merged into: Digital Art > Drawings & Paintings.
Another thing is that Digital Art > Other disappeared since that was another misleading category which included other sub-categories within, some of which made no sense.
Btw, you don't need to do anything if you had artworks in these sub-categories, so don't worry, they won't just disappear or anything
The official statement about this can be found here and this also leads to the next point...
As stated by moonbeam13 in that journal, there is a lot of redundancy in the current Category Tree which can be confusing both for browsing and submitting. There are sub-categories within sub-categories and sometimes these are not clear enough, they're no longer necessary, etc. So the Community Relations team will be working in the following weeks to try to eliminate this redundancy as much as possible, merge, add and substract sub-categories if necessary so the category system be more simple, clear and straightforward. AND WE NEED YOUR INPUT!
The different CVs will be posting journals like this so we can discuss the categories piece by piece, in this journal I would like us to discuss Digital Art > Drawings & Paintings
This is the current D&P category tree:
Digital Art
Drawings & Paintings
- - Abstract - Characters - Stencils - Text
- Conceptual Storybook Technical
- - Fantasy - Groups - Open Format - Pin-Up - Portraits - Sci-Fi
What do you think should be changed? Which sub-categories do you think should stay or should go? What about merging some of these, are all of these really necessary? Maybe you think the category tree is perfect just as it is, that's also a valid opinion. I want you to tell me!

Some first ideas
Note: Just to make clear, all of these are just that: ideas at this stage, I can't guarantee they'll happen.Get rid of People's sub-categories
Are they really necessary? Can't we just have a People & Portraits subcategory and that's it? Or at least eliminate some of them, for example, Sci-Fi, since we already have the Sci-Fi sub-cat outside People.
Graffiti
If you browse the Graffiti sub-category you'll notice is greatly miscatted, do we really need a sole category for Graffiti? Or at least I think we could get rid of the sub-categories under Graffiti. What do you think?
Add more sub-cats to Illustration
Like Editorial, Commercial, Educational and Books (maybe rename Storybook to Books?) etc. Good or bad idea?
Creation of a new Concept Art category
Should something like this be under Digital Art or Design & Interfaces?
Space Art, Sci-Fi and Fantasy
I think Fantasy and Sci-Fi are different enough to continue separated. As for Sci-Fi and Space, maybe they could live together as they're more closely related, however let's consider not all Sci-Fi is set in a space environment, so should they continue in separated categories? should they be merged together?
