With radar, infrared and optical stealth technology and ever more reliable AI, the crewed bomber is becoming a thing of the past. Whilst I think that, for now, the generals will insist on the 'attack' command remaining in the hands of human operators, I think that the next generation of strike/interdiction aircraft will be something like this.
... so it would most likely be a situation where we start fighting someone, they hijack our drones, and in a bout of ultimate spite worthy of the phrase 'FROM HELL'S HEART I STAB AT THEE!', make sure that everyone and their brother has access to how they hijacked the drones.
Oh, and the only way to stop it? Either you have the drone operator practically on the drone's ass (i.e. within 300 meters) or simply stuff an artificial general intelligence (aka what the public calls AI) into the airframe.
