Description
Nearly slipped my mind. But then I was researching Peter Benchley's Creature and its shark monster (as well as Relic's Kothoga, The Terror's Tuunbaq and Moorwen from Outlander) and was reminded of the monster aspect of this hybridization shtick especially with ocean life.
So here's my latest mermaid.
Got a lot of different shark features like the six gill and tiger shark, but also some axolotl gills, that extendable back fin of a mudskipper (plus the visible fin bones like old illustrations of sharks often do).
But I also have mammalian features, aside from a bit of extra fat, the Mermainds body found mockumentary was a stupid publicity stunt but I like the speculative idea of it following the path of living aquatic mammals.
So not sure if this is visible but that fluke is horizontal, if a humanlike mammalian species is to swim full time it would likely be up and down unlike reptiles or fish.
Though I guess that's often obvious in most mermaid depictions right?
Eitherway its an ideal body plan for humanoid swimmers.
