Freaked Raskolnikov by theTieDyeCloak Freaked Raskolnikov by theTieDyeCloak
It's Raskolnikov!!! For those that don't know, he's the main character in Crime and Punishment. This scene takes place shortly after the, er, crime. Raskolnikov is freaking out because there are people on the other side of the door who do not know he is there, trying to get in...

Facial expression inspired by the wonderful stock of :iconwookiestock:

Then I admire you. In Russia we have a joke: не прочитать "Преступление и каказание" - преступление, прочитать "Преступление и каказание" - наказание.  Dostoevsky (no doubt) is a genius, but he is so damn pessimistic and he is able to drive to the anguish any reader. I prefer Bulgakov and Pelevin, they are more buoyant

Thanks very much! This one was weird to color- I think I ended up using two different types of pastels and pencils all at the same time :)

I like these "dirty" colours. I think they render the atmosphere of Dostoevsky's novels.

thanks very much! Though the dirty colors are mostly from me not being able to decide what medium to use, and scribling everything on at once ;)

I'm reading that book now, and I remembered about your wonderful C&P art, and had to come check it out again now that I know who the heck you're talking about...
Beautiful coloring job!!! (and the eyebrows are love.)

YAY!!! It makes me so happy when other people like Crime and Punishment too!! I hope you enjoy the book, it's a very silly/sad/wonderful story (if that makes any sense) Granted, most people wouldn't say it's funny, but Rodya's extreme mood swings still crack me up :D

I love the perspective. Also, his expression is priceless. The entire piece contains a sort of "freaked" look to it.

Indeed he is. Fyodor Dostoevsky is one of my favorite writers; his characters are always extremely vivid and human.

... was I meant to giggle at this picture? Because I did, and I kind of feel bad about it now.

It's wonderful either way, though.

XD Okay, just wasn't sure if it was SRS BSNS or not.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that, since there are a lot of people who assume classic literature must not be giggled, snorted, laughed, tittered, or cackled at.

...among other synonyms.

Wonderful Raskolnikov! He looks so spooked here. Awww, poor Dmitri. Just so you know, his hair is dark brown. I possess the original Russian novel, mwuhahahaha! Ahem. Absolutely love the guy, adore the book, best thing evah... You totally ROCK!!! :D :D :D

Aww, thanks so much!!! It's good to know there's another Crime and Punishment fan out there! I did the hair like that because the English translation I read said his hair was "dark blond", and only later did I find out that everyone else says he's got brown hair! By then I was too used to drawing him this way... Anyway, thanks again very much, I'm glad you like it!

The Scream by Edvard Munch, anyone? I mean, look at the composition and perspective! :jawdrop:
