Batatebrum by ThermalTheorist Batatebrum by ThermalTheorist
Entry for the fakemon line contest that can be found here.

Name: Batatebrum
Etymology: Batate (from "batata", spanish for yam) - Brum (from cerebrum)
Type: Psychic - Grass
Species: Nerve Fungi Pokémon
Ability: Synchronize / Symbiosis
Height: 3' 07"
Weight: 36.8 lbs.

Pokédex Entry 1: Old folk use to tell children who gather around about the time there were simple and bland yam-like pokemons all over the villages' fields. But one day fungi pokémon started to grow all over them. A symbiotic bond was created, and so the Batatebrum were born.

Pokédex Entry 2: The main body of the Batatebrum is soft, numb and quite weak, but the nervous toadstools that sprout from all over it not only are capable of transmitting all sorts of emotions. They can also emit psychological signals that can modify the way a brain works, or exchange concepts between other lifeforms. This can make bonds between Batatebrum and other pokémon or humans much stronger.

It probably has an evolution but eh.

So I'm the contestant who has been given this to make a variant of - although I am your competitor, would it be possible to tell me a little bit of your though process when it came to this fakemon. It would be hugely appeciated.

Congrats on getting to the final round btw :)

Of course! At first I thought of a rock-psychic mon, because I like that combination, but then I wanted to go with something organic. Got the idea of making the psychic part organic, using nerves, brains and stuff that was superior to ours in terms of potential, but stuck in a rock and giving it sentience. However, I found it hard to adapt my possible designs to the lines, and realized that I could kinda add mushrooms to one of them to make it fit. So then I decided to go for yet another fungi parasite mon, but on a yam (the most rocky looking veggie I thought of), and instead of being a parasite, a symbiosis, mutual benefit, exchange between sentience and a growing spot. Extremities and eyeholes are the only thing that I kept from the main designs.
I hope you find this useful, and congrats
to you too!
