Look, I understand that subscriptions are desirable for anybody with a digital livelihood, but, without meaingful feedback, or genuine interest, a Watch on DA devolves into the internet equivalent of tipping in the States; it's not because someone actually offered a value, by investing their tender care and precious energy, it's just a compulsive nicety. For a waiter barely making minimum wage, it makes sense, for an online creator it's wildly unhelpful; and here's why:

Dead subscribers are not useful when assesing a channel's success or failure.

They're just people who reflexively clicked the "like" or "subscribe" button because it's generally considered, on this side of the millenium, good ettiquette; but, riddle me this: how is it good ettiquette to feign interest in something you're not remotely interested in, not in a general sense that would prompt you to consistently invest time and attention in it as a source of interest?I love dungeon synth, I listen to it constantly; but I don't subscribe to an artist who composes dungeon synth just because I heard a sample of a track on their Youtube shorts, deemed it fire, and then added them to my sub list; relegating them to the bottom of a wood pile of interests more compelling, thus confusing the artist and creating another tag in my search preferences, for somethign I don't honestly prefer. I don't do things like that, generally, because that's not helpful, see what I mean...? If your someone genuinely trying to dazzle a given audience, you first need to know the demographics that are interested--legitimately interested-- in your work, as a baseline. My point being?

Y'all? You can love something I've posted, I'm in expressibly grateful when any actual affirms I'm not wasting my fucking time, but, absolutely, you don't have to subscribe to me. You don't have to watch me to enjoy something I've created. I repeat, respectively: there's no obligation whatsoever to potentially clutter your Watch cue with shit that doesn't authentically fascinate or inspire you. I'm flattered if you do, but I don't subscribe (forgive the pun) to that same culture of viewership. I think it's counter productive and a waste of time that ultimately hurts artists more than it helps. That said, if anybody legitimately wants to Watch my work, well, I hope you like what you prioritize to see.
