Lately I've been binge-listening to legions of fantasy metal sentinels from the States, in a trend that will persist well into July; if not until the Fall. The best part--besides sampling great music-- is introducing the new wave of traditional heavy metal to a generation of prospective head-bangers. Boys and men--working class bastards-- starved for unapologetic aggression in an epoch of solipsistic soydroids and PC pussery; so, with no more ado, here're some godsends to sharpen your battle axes to:
P.S.
I want to give a shout-out to 'Crossed Hearts'. Not a power metal band, just great melodic metal in the vein of Dokken.
The live set is shockingly consistent with the studio release, gottuh say; and the band seem genuinely chill (the front girl certainly doesn't have her head up her ass). She did a dad joke mid set, one that I will make a point to tell every Jew I meet.
"What do you call a cheap circumcision?
A rip-off"
P.P. S.
Another shout-out to Wings of Steel, another USA metal band; not a power metal band full stop, but a metal band with more than a fistful of fantasy tracks, and certainly a metal band with a power metal album cover. I unironically want that logo on a shirt I own and wear on a weekly basis; because the band, the guys behind the instruments, they clearly worship Candlemass as much as they do Sabbath and Priest, and the vocalist has Halford's scream in 'Sad wings of Destiny' and Iggy Pop's baritone in 'Wild One': so, yeah: if it means I can give an insanely underrated up-and-coming band more exposure, I'll look like a Brony for free.
