This coming week, I'm going to pop open my pilot episode for 'Seizure' and read it on a drip of Middle Eastern-spiced Dungeon Synth, Ecclesia, and Aeternam's 'heir of the rising sun'; to put myself back into the dark fantasy headspace, so I can start hammering out some character beats for the next installment of 'Seizure of the Gods'!
I already had most of (about 70%) of Chapter 2's beats sketched out prior to now, so, the problem is more about climbing back into the heads of my characters and scratching together some more-than-passable first draft dialog. Anything that scans. Just to knock the rust off (because, uh, it's been a minute since I wrote any dialog or scenic prose). I tttthink four months; so a quarter of a year. It's going to be a humbling experience (hopefully a productive one).
It starts with eye-binging my Pinterest board for 'Seizure' to some bitchin' music, scanning my pilot to nest myself in the story's continuity, and re-watching some adventure movies like 'Last Crusade; some noirs like 'Double Indemnity', 'Third Man', 'Gun for Hire', 'Miller's Crossing' and 'White Heat'; neo noirs like 'Blade Runner'; petty crime movies like 'Rounders'; heist movies like 'Swordfish', 'Ocean's Eleven' and 'Heat'; and character studies like 'The Hustler'. That means watching a movie per work day (and some of them talkies, which means spotty audio), and two at least on my day off; which means about 4-6 hours have to be ear-marked for movie time, with likely a 30 minute period of film theory.
