For anyone curious, I used references from REIQ's designs for the feathery eye lashes; his style is similar to the original, but it's more preferable, to me, because it's more fluid and innately kinetic. For the face, I wanted Tanya to have that perverse smugness that defines the character. For all of Tanya's conniving genius, maneuvering ruthlessly through the echelon's of her fascist government, she is, without question, a Looney Tune: so who better to study than the jester demigod, Chuck Jones? Tanya's pupil-less eyes and jutting upper lip were based off of Jones' animation for 'The Grinch'. I looked at what made The Grinch's smile so nasty and Cindy Lou's face so adorable, and combine the two elements. I also looked into Alessandro Barbucci's work, because I love how expressive his faces are. (Barbucci's comics include 'Sky Doll' for any interested readers.)

 For the uniform and hand, I studied Kohta Hirano's 'Hellsing'. Since I started I've always been a fan of Hirano's character designs; there's a fluidity and an impact to his clothing. The shirts feel thin and air-y, the jackets feel heavy and layered, and the characters drip with details; and yet somehow this bastard makes every panel (or close enough) feel slavishly devoted to a character's expression or action. Nothing ever reads "too busy" or confused.
