The larger the breasts, the heavier they are; which means the lower they'll hang (no matter the bra) , and the lower their drop shadow will be.

For the overall shadow underneath the shelf the bust constitutes, you want to flatten your values. Realistically, yes, there are gradations of value because light, even when scarce, will still bounce into a dark space; that's just how light works. Human eyesight is just inferior to most animals, so, we don't perceive these gradations. Therefore, for the sake of clarity, it's easier--more expressive--to simply remove those details. Plus, it tracks for the bust to have more gradations than the stomach: because the farther the subject the flatter its values; and and a pair of 36DDD breasts are going to be closer to the viewer than anything else.
