Sometimes yous gots tuh go back the basics (to remind yourself you're not shit at them).
I have to say I'm genuinely proud of that sphere, and just the values in general for this one. It was refreshing to just erase all the lines that didn't intersect and let the forms speak for themselves 
I would recommend the spray-can/air brush with pressure sensitivity at 100% continuous, so that you develop a kinesthetic sense for sculpting the form, i.e. the harder you press, the denser and darker the shade. This will facilitate graded transitions.
You also missed an important value - the background! With that in place you would have retained every edge by tonal contrast. You could have erased every drawn line, truly allowing the forms to speak for themselves.
Great choice of exercise.
