Kiyoko Re-Design 102024

I removed the pleats and adjusted her figure; also I added some much needed shading. She definitely looks Asian, even as a thumbnail, which is great (it means I'm improving!). Sadly, this was only a warm up for my next project so I didn't bother with coloring her (which is a damn shame, because I had the perfect reference for her skin tone, hair and eyes. (Yes, it's the one in the right bottom corner.)

The uniform features a vest and, underneath, suspenders, but I just didn't have time to do any secondary sketches to elaborate on her design; not even some fast-and-loose expressions to hammer out the character's unique brand of aloof absurdity.

I struggled for a while on how to summarize her character, and then I listened to Marimari_en stream; and I said aloud, 'That!' That soft-spoken, awkward but earnest hyper specialized brand of obsessive compulsion was the perfect reference for Kiyoko's eccentric personality.
