Alex Ramond Study #3

What I'm starting to realize is that Raymond is more flippant than other artists when it comes to implying what's there then representing his forms; which is all well and good for Raymond, but it makes some of his decisions (close up) frustrating to puzzle out. That said, he's still fantastic when it comes to simplifying the hallmarks of feminine beauty, specifically for Western women. (He doesn't really have a wealth of African and Asian beauties to sample and study; maybe they're in his 'Flash Gordon' comics, I don't know.)

I'd say, when it comes to his faces, Raymond is a worthwhile mentor, but, for hair, his clarity leaves much to be desired. He relies too much on his silhouettes to imply form, at least for my taste; someone else's mileage may vary.

I added a few minor cosmetic tweaks; a terminator on the shading under the eyelid; lines to imply some mass to the under-eye fat; some core shadows to emphasize the changing of angles in the hair; nothing wild, just little flourishes to demarcate my study from the OG.

I'm studying guys like Raymond because I...I don't care for artists that invariably draw from manga for their education. I love manga (have since I was ten!), but I do not appreciate this implicit stigma that's become so peripheral in any discussion of Western animation; this bogus notion that we draw women uglier than Asian artists.

We don't. Spiteful mutants do, because they can't reconcile with the fact that beauty is innately exclusive because beauty is a meritocracy; and when it's cultivated and maintained it is objectively earned.
