A big flightless caracara for neothere

Welcome to episode 2 of my spec evo project neothere my spec evo project it lives in future south America which I already explained what it is but for a little recap it is now an island continent with nothing but grasslands scrublands and woodlands anyways time to go into the species

The Velocicara

(Drypteonychus carnifex): Dwelling in the isolated island continent of south americas woodlands and grasslands emerges the Velocicara it is a large flightless macropredatory descendant of the caracara it fills a niche quite similar to the phorusrhacids and bathornithids of the past it has a long sickle claw similary to dromaeosaurs it has a long hooked axe like beak similary to bathornithids they are carnivores they preys on a variety of fauna in the isolated island continent of south america including rodents filling ungulate niches semi aquatic hippo like capybaras(although they only target the young old sick or injured) rhino like maras(although mostly the young along with old and sick individuals) baboochins brontorheas a species of ankylosaur like rodent that is an omnivore an armadillo descendant that fills a niche similar to suids/pigs liptoptern like and proboscidean like tapirs giant ground sloth like armadillos anteater like armadillos giraffe like maned wolf descendants and many more they are mostly solitary hunters although they will sometimes from packs up to 7 members although they will mostly mob prey once they killed there prey they will either share the kill in a pack or go there seperate ways(after there done) the females lay over 6 eggs once the eggs hatch the female will bring the kill of its hunt to the nest to the chick's they will fight eachother over the meal with only the strongest chick's getting to eat first while the weakest will either starve or get picked of by predators if they don't starve and survive the female will turn on them and either kick them or eat them the chick's once they grow into teens will hunt with the female once the chick's grow into a sub adult the female will either kick them out or it they stay around for to long will turn on them they are quite fast running over 16 to 28 miles per hour they are also quite large nearly at the size of a grown man there sickle claws are large males and females will hunt in pairs hunting prey such as rodents filling ungulate niches and other fauna the chick's after a day are capable of standing and then after another day they are capable of walking and then running Velocicaras are quite territorial and aren't afraid of chasing down hunting down or even killing other fauna and Velocicaras in there territories there bonding typically occurs in sub adults and after a period of competitive displays following cooperative trial hunts etc the couple will share the territory with eachother and will rarely seperate except briefly the couple will patrol there territory and will share resting and nesting sites both parents guard the nest the female will usually hunt while the male watches over the nest they also have a large crest on there heads they use it for display
