Made of Wood and Painted over

I took this picture today before school started, I have always wanted to take a picture of this because it is just so beautiful! This picture hangs in front of the office at my school, and I pass by it everyday. I think it's the best picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Help that I have ever seen. I'm not sure who the artist is, but I'll try to find out.

The Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help is on June 27th.

"The picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour is painted on wood, with background of gold. It is Byzantine in style and is supposed to have been painted in the thirteenth century. It represents the Mother of God holding the Divine Child while the Archangels Michael and Gabriel present before Him the instruments of His Passion. Over the figures in the picture are some Greek letters which form the abbreviated words Mother of God, Jesus Christ, Archangel Michael, and Archangel Gabriel respectively. It was brought to Rome towards the end of the fifteenth century by a pious merchant, who, dying there, ordered by his will that the picture should be exposed in a church for public veneration. It was exposed in the church of San Matteo, Via Merulana, between St. Mary Major and St. John Lateran. Crowds flocked to this church, and for nearly three hundred years many graces were obtained through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin. The picture was then popularly called the Madonna di San Matteo. The church was served for a time by the Hermits of St. Augustine, who had sheltered their Irish brethren in their distress. These Augustinians were still in charge when the French invaded Rome (1812) and destroyed the church. The picture disappeared; it remained hidden and neglected for over forty years, but a series of providential circumstances between 1863 and 1865 led to its discovery in an oratory of the Augustinian"

Dear ShadowBlade,
I have to Thank u profusely for posting this Mother MARY pic.... coz my life has literally tunred around since i saw this pic... I was so so so enchanted by the Look in Mother's eyes here... serenly calm, yet u can feel the hidden sadness in her eyes... knowing that HER only Son JESUS... is destined to be Crucified someday...!!
I got this Beautiful Pic color printed.... it does fine even in an A4 size print.... then i got the same laminated & stuck up at eye-level in my room, as well as another similar print-out in my cabin onboard the ship that i work in... And since then i have found myself crying out all my woes & troubles and what nots to My Beloved Mother... looking into her ever so compassionate eyes.. feeling HER faith coursing thru my veins... Countless have been the times when hav felt lonesome & troubled on the ship with various issues.. Always found MARY so full of solace....no Matter what sum so called anti-MARY folks out there might say in contrast.... & i care 2 hoots coz i dont need 2 prove to anyone around how much Help i have recvd from Mother MARY...!! Now then, im sure most folks wud think im cuckoo if i admit to having Miracles happening in my Life thru MARY's Intercession....!! Ohhh... the sweetness & pain in those eyes....!!
I have no Words to express my gratitude for having this Pic in my life.... i always keep a few extra laminated prints on the ship.... these i happily present to any believer who wants to take up Mother MARY's Faith..!! Will do my best to Spread The Word.... always till my very last Breath..!!!
Thanx again ShadowBlade, May Our Beloved Mother MARY always Bless us all..!!! ;-)

Dear friend: Please could inform the author of this version of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and in particular where is it located? Can you clarify the school, city and country? I should be grateful, because it is a beautiful version.

I do not know who the artist it, unfortunately. :hmm: It was at my highschool while I went there, and before that (as far as I know) it belonged to the highschool attached to the local church in my city. It is a really very beautiful version of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and certainly one of my favorites. I'm sorry; I wish I could more helpful. :hmm:

Ok,but at least tell me the name of your secondary school and the name of the city it is located. I am a Catholic theologian and will try to investigate for myself who is the author. You just kindly give me the name of the school where was this picture of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the city. Please.

Oh, and if you do find the author, please let me know, because I'd love to give credit where credit is due. :)
