Here's the latest version of the book cover; I really couldn't leave out some of the other characters, and there was plenty of space behind them in the circle, so I just digitally painted them in. More fine tuning to be done, but I'm expecting to be sending the artwork to the publishers this week. Just seen some sample proofs, and the print quality is beautiful! I know some of you have been following the strip on here, but this like is the difference between watching something on a 1950s TV set, and a high definition plasma screen...all the detail is crisp, all the lines are clean. Areas that I thought would block in, didn't. So, what I'm saying is, it's definitely worth having the book...70 pages of sexy, retro-futuristic fun, And it's going to be the first of a six-volume set! Wow!!!
You did a lovely job of hinting at the story with intriguing graphics.
Might just have to check it out!
I like this cover.
Incredible amazing cover. I love so much the sci fi retro futuristic style.
I totally agree with you ^^
I totally agree with you ^^
I really hope you get this when it comes out...partly because I get royalties, but mostly because I can guarantee you'll enjoy it.
Seriously buying this if you produce this!
Thank you for your support! It's definitely happening...as soon as I know the release date, I'll be shouting from the rooftops, so you'll know! This contains all of the story that i posted on here, but you'll be able to see it in much better detail...and I've revised the story, as well as inserting new sequences.
Great Cover work!
Thank you! Look out for this title soon - don't have a price or release date yet, but I'll keep everyone updated!
goodness--I think irt looks AWESOME! Almost like some of Fantagraphics old Modesty Blaise or Axa covers!
Thank you - Enrico Romero was one of the greats, and Modesty Blaise was a huge influence (more so than Axa, although in many ways, this is closer to Axa)!
I can almost hear classic sci-fi music playing when I see this cover.
You've got it exactly right! I listened a lot to Bernard Herrman's music (The Day the Earth Stood Still), and John Barry's score for Starcrash, as well as a ton of other offbeat orchestral music while I was writing and drawing Venna. I hope they get a good composer for the film (nooo, that's just me getting big ideas! ....oh, but you never know...)
A Venna movie would need a retro soundtrack paying homage to the golden sci-fi era.
I've drawn it in such a way that it could be made on a moderate budget, and with next to no CGI except maybe for a few laser effects. Everything else, rubber masks and puppets and miniature sets. If they get the right actresses for the principal leads, who's going to be bothered about how real the effects look?
Thank you...a bit more fine-tuning to do, but I'm pretty pleased with it
Sexy! I like how the lighting/colouring keeps the focus where it should be...
Thank you! I worked hard on that, so I'm glad it paid off...and I have the baddies bathed in red light, the goodies in blue light...not sure why that should mean anything, but it sort of does
Thank you - I'll breathe more easily when it rolls off the press, but I think we're almost there now!
Thank you! I'm really hoping it will lure people, who aren't familiar with any of my work, into buying it (I'm sure they'll be glad they did, if they do!)
Great cover! I am in eager anticipation
Wow. Good wo
Looking forward to this very much!
I'm sooo excited!
You should be!
They seem eager to do the whole saga - it'll take years, but I'm ready for it!
I'v started Book Two already...I hope to start posting it here in serial form very soon. I'm going to try to use a lot more of the material from the original strip this time, and post at least one installment per day. Book one took me four years...the others most be turned out much more quickly, or I'll be ninety by the time I complete the saga!
