Writing Tips - Blank Page Syndrome
So you've got your novel or whatever all plotted out. You know what's going to happen each second of the way through. You know all of your main characters to the point of having written a full biography on each of them, including the waiter in chapter 3 who has like two lines of dialogue. You've got your favorite writing music playing on repeat. You've opened up a Word or Google Doc, your fingers ready to go. And yet... you just can't get started. You have no idea where to begin, and anything you try to type just feels weird and awkward. Such is the case of Blank Page Syndrome. The absolute hardest part of writing is getting started, and getting over this. It's not quite writer's block... you know what you want to do, and you could write another story if you want to, but you just can't start this particular novel. And you love this work you're about to begin on. You've been thinking about it so much that proofreading your last work has been a pain in the ass because this new idea keeps

Writing Tips: Avoiding Bad Worldbuilding
One of the first mistakes that a writer of speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, or supernatural horror) makes is front-loading every little bit of information of their world that they painstakingly made. One of the last mistakes that a writer of speculative fiction makes is giving stupid details of their world, unknowingly retconing things, and explaining things that don't need explaining because this usually ends their career or irreparably damages a franchise. Today's lesson is about "bad worldbuilding" because the hardest part of actually creating a fictional world is giving too much detail.
This one is going to be different for different types of media. For example, most television shows have a build-as-you-go kind of feel (think Fairly Odd Parents), while a series of novels is usually planned out from the beginning. As an aside, if you're planning out an entire series of novels, make sure that at least the very first one can stand completely on its own to the point where

Writing Tips - Myths You Probably Believe
Girls will read books about boys or girls, but boys will only read books about boys:
False. The gender of the protagonist in children's or young adult's literature does not matter. For example, in the 90's, Goosebumps was really popular. About half of them had first-person female protagonists. This more closely ties into subject matter. Something like The Princess Diaries--written for and by females will largely be enjoyed by an exclusively female audience. Something like The Golden Compass/The Northern Lights, which has a female protagonist but has subject matter like adventure, is very accessible to both genders. If you care about having an egalitarian audience, and you know how to write well—whether or not you use a female protagonist—you will most likely succeed.
You need to revise your novel/work like 10 or 20 times until it's perfect
Honestly if you're efficient, and you pay really close attention, you only need to do it like once. (Unless

Writer who finally stopped being lazy and started writing that novel she's spent months talking about. It's an urban fantasy with vampires. I'll mainly be using this account to post pictures of my characters.
